The Boston Red Sox!!!!

WIN THE WORLD SERIES. I thought this would never happen. 1918 was so many years ago! So many fans in New England have been waiting so many years for this to happen.

As a Cardinal fan, I congratulate the Red Sox. If any team was to beat St. Louis, I'm glad it was them. They are a classy organization and winning the World Series was something special, especially after they beat the Yankees. As for the Cardinals, all I can say is....Boring! You were very disappointing. Great job Red Sox!

Ok, now for the sportsman in me. Games 1 and 2 were great and entertaining, but 3 and 4 were so boring. It was a decent series, but I like my world series going to game 7.

So what the finally Soxs won. The Marlins have won it twice already!! It doesn't mean a thing. All the fans that have cried for so many years. BooHoo!! The Yankees are evil!! BooHoo!! Why not us?!! BooHoo!! Its the dreaded curse that doesn't let us win!! BooHoo!! Give me a break!!

Obviously I'm a Yankee fan. The Yanks always play to win and the Soxs try to win. So what you finally beat us. After all the heartache you suffered on our behalf, you still need another 25 more World Series before you catch up to us!!

Like Dennis Leary says, you will have nothing to complain about anymore now that the Soxs finally won.

Congrats Red Sox fans. It was really amazing what the team did. It seemed as if the whole country (except St. Louis and New York of course) was pulling for them. I'm an Angel fan but many family members of mine are Sox fans, and it is a very emotional night. I can only wonder what kind of partying will be going on in Boston tonight!

that's why Yankee fans are Yankee fans, folks. When they win, they're the best, when they lose they're bitter and can't take it. It's about time a team with a soul and the spirit of the game won the World Series. Thanks for playing the game the way it should be played.

You are absolutly right about the Yanks being the best when we win. Its because we have so much practice doing it!!

I'm actually a true fan of baseball. Its not right when a team is so good that you know that they are going to the playoffs at the end of the year in April. This was a good season because of the competition Boston gave us. Boston won 11 out of the 19 games they played in the regular season. I willing to take my chances on them knocking us out and not like other years that the Soxs went out without a whimmper. Boston should have come in first place. The Yanks struggled all year. They broke a record by coming back in 61 games this year. This luck had to run out some time.

I knew back in April that our pitching staff was weak. No other team in history won over a hundred games and not have had at least one pitcher win 15 games. Our ballpen saved our asses all year. They were burnt out for the playoffs.

I'm not bitter, its that I enjoy tweaking the Boston fans. I enjoyed their misery. Its so much fun. The Yankee fans won't be able to live down this year for over a hundred years. At least an American League team won and not the National League team!

Now its our turn to say, wait until next year!!

Glad
I have pin stripped underwear!!

ps; A team with heart and soul won? Boston's heart and soul played shortstop for the Chicago Cubs for half the year. Boston put their best hitter, Manny Ramirez, on waivers before the season started. Since no one took him, they tried to trade him. Last year's team had more heart and soul.

Oh the irony - you talk about Yankee fans not taking it well? Who dubbed the phrase "evil empire" and complained for EIGHTY SIX years about how evil and mean and nasty the yankees were....

The Sox aren't some low payroll bunch of kids who won by just playing "the game the way it should be played" - they are just a bunch of sluggers with significantly better pitching than the Cardinals. They aren't some miracle team - they have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball by ~20 million as I recall. I would hope they could beat the cards - they spent 20+ (maybe 30+, can't recall exactly) million more than we did.

See above post for more info on the "heart and soul" of the Sox.

Actually the sox already had 5 series under their belt before this year so they have 20 more to go! =)

I'm looking forward to next year for the Yankees. A 250 million payroll team will be exciting to watch. And to all those who bitch about payroll--- The Yankees set attendance records this year and baseball is a business so if spending more money to get more players generates more dollars then it's only going to continue up and beyond.

The best part is, the Yankee's are part of so much baseball history. Now they are apart of the biggest choke in sports history. It was one of the best days in baseball history to watch the Yankees go up 3-0 and get smoked in 4 straight.

Everyone hates the Yankees because of how George conducts business. Baseball allows him to do it. It's not his fault, he wants to put the best product on the field that he can, and he does, year in, and year out. Yankee fans are lucky. they know every year they have a shot at winning it all. Thats what baseball dictates in it's rules, and George does his best at putting asses in those seats, and bringing it home.

Grats Sox fans, being a Cubs fan I can appreciate what it's like for you.

Here's the deal, the sox won because they outplayed the other teams. Plain and simple. Money has nothing to do with it. You can't buy a comeback from 0-3 and you can't buy a sweep of a powerful club. The Red Sox nation has supported this team through thick and thin. I'd like to see how Yankee's fan's would respond if they went through such an emotional rollercoaster. I'm not here to bash the yankees or to make this out to be more than it is. It was good baseball played by the Sox and poor baseball played by the Cards. People can bitch about payroll's and players and owners all they want but at the end of the day one thing remains and that is RED SOX ARE WORLD CHAMPS!!

somewhere Ted Williams is smiling R.I.P.

I don't think a bitter Yankees fan has the right to declare what the heart and soul of Boston is. Sure, we love Nomar, but after his injury he wasn't playing very well, it had to be done. Boston's heart and soul is the Red Sox and thier loving fans, it goes far beyond one player, or any single action of Red Sox management. At least we believed in our team through 86 years of loss. I'd like to see what happens to the Yankee fanbase when they don't win for 86 years. Betcha the Mets would get pretty popular.

Ex-mates vote Garciaparra in

By Bob Hohler, Globe Staff | October 26, 2004

ST. LOUIS -- In some ways, he is the 26th man. Nomar Garciaparra played such an integral role in helping the Red Sox become a championship-caliber franchise that his former teammates have not forgotten him even as they approach the threshold of a dream.

When the Sox huddled last month to allocate the windfall they would reap in the postseason, they made sure to award Garciaparra a full share of their playoff cash. The Marlins last year divided a $14.9 million playoff pool after they won the World Series, awarding 37 full shares of $306,000, 29 partial shares, and 11 cash awards. The runner-up Yankees split nearly $10 million, handing out 39 full shares of $181,000 and 45 partial shares.

Garciaparra also hasn't forgotten the Sox. He recently called Jason Varitek and Trot Nixon, his closest friends on the team.

"Being the class act that Nomar is, he wished us well," Varitek said. "He's been a tremendous part of this organization through the years, even this year. He's as deserving as all of us to be here."

The Sox ended Garciaparra's 10-year relationship with the team at the July trading deadline, sending him to the Cubs in a four-way deal in which they acquired Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz. Garciaparra's days in Boston did not end happily amid friction with management, but no one has questioned his contributions to the franchise or the community during his lengthy tenure with the team.

"He wished us well and told me to tell the guys he was thinking about them and was happy for us," Nixon said. "We all understand that certain things happen in baseball you can't control, but for as long as he was with the team and for everything he did, it doesn't feel right that he's not here."

The Sox have welcomed Cabrera, Garciaparra's replacement, who played a pivotal role in helping them reach the World Series. But Nixon, Varitek, and many of their teammates continue to honor Garciaparra's legacy as well.

"Nomar was such a big part of getting us to this point and helping this organization," Varitek said. "I'm not taking anything away from the job Orlando has done. I love everything about him. I just wish we could have both of them here."

The Sox decided to be as generous as they were last year when they divided nearly $5 million in playoff shares and awarded 51 full shares of nearly $90,000, 21 partial shares, and 10 cash awards. No breakdown was immediately available for this postseason.

"Mike Timlin brought it up," Nixon said. "He said, `You can look at it as money or you can look at it as a gift from God.' I'm not interested in the money. The championship is what I'm interested in. The prize is what every professional athlete strives for."

The Sox took care of everyone who contributed in any way this year to helping them reach the postseason.

"Anybody who spills their blood in the field out there one time helping a club win a ballgame deserves as much as anyone else, in my opinion," Nixon said.

The greatest thing about being part of Red Sox Nation is you know you're a fan for the right reasons, because you care about the team, not the championships they've won in the past. It's so easy to be a Yankee fan. It takes passion to be a Red Sox fan. Why do you think you never see Mets caps outside the five boroughs? Do you really think that if the Yankees had a drought for eight and a half decades there'd be any fans left? They'd be bulldozing "the house that Ruth built" so they could build a parking lot to bus in more Mets fans!

Obviously, you don't recall the mid/late 60's to early 70's when we were one of the worst if not worst teams in baseball. Yankee fans (true fans that is) can remember Celirino Sanchez, Jake Gibbs, Gene Michaels et al and being best known as the team who had 2 of their best pitchers swap wives for real. No, 80+ years it's not, but, we do know what crappy ball is about. And we were still loyal!!!!

I'm glad someone said and not me. The Yanks stunk to high heaven during those years. So much so that Steinbrenner came in and bought the team at a bargin basement price.

Sure the Yankee fans maybe spoiled on a certain level but don't question the loyalty of the fans. There are many fans that have loved the Yankees for many decades, during the good times and the bad.
