Haha, stick it to the man!
Only one more series to put that curse in its place.

Cross-Over 10-20-2004 09:42 PM

Congratulations to the Red Sox, they made some very good plays in the field eenroute to victory.

Some random thoughts on tonight's game and portions of the previous games:

Cabrera-some good glove, and man it looks like he is trying so damn hard to
get a hit with his huge cuts.

Lowe- pitched a gem tonight, reminds me of Josh Beckett last year. Both pitchers have immense ability, its just a matter of stringing it together over a period of time.

Terry Francona- what? When Pedro came in, I said to myself "what the fuck are you doing". In terms of baseball, you have several effective relievers who have done very well in recent games. Pedro is an average pitcher against the yankees, he hasn't had adequate rest, and he doesn't pitch well on little rest.

In addition, the whole debacle last year where he got worn out and blew the lead in game seven, his appearance riles up thousands of yankee fans, and did I mention that he is not rested and you have a good bullpen?

I don't think the benefit of that move was worth the risk. Don't get cute and pull a move like that. No way. The game wasn't close, so its not like you were expecting Pedro excellence to get you through the inning scoreless. You could scatter two runs with Myers, don't bring in Pedro and turn Yankee Stadium upside down.

I was damn impressed though with how he pumped shit up and extinguished the rally.

soccerchamp76 10-20-2004 10:17 PM

As much as I enjoyed seeing the Yankees lose, especially the greatest choke ever, they are going to lose to the Cardinals in the World Series.
Sorry.

goppers 10-20-2004 10:18 PM

happy happy happy happy! I didn't understand the pedro move either. I'd love to have seen him in the 9th, just to have in on the mound when it was over. other than that I didn't need to see him. doesn't really matter... happy happy happy.

Scipio 10-20-2004 10:27 PM

As long as it involves the Yankees losing, it's fine by me. Damn fine pitching by the sox tonight.

Stare At The Sun 10-20-2004 10:42 PM

I don't even like baseball, and this puts a smile on my face.

Go Boston. :)

shortynickel 10-20-2004 10:45 PM

I thought that when A Rod knock the ball out of the pitchers hand was one of the worst things i have seen in baseball....and they deserve to have lost last nights game cause of that. my favorite highlight from tonights game was on the first pitch just after they did a pitching change it happened to be a grand slam

jamessh1 10-20-2004 10:48 PM

damn, i missed this game, and then missed the highlights right after. When i clicked on the TFP the last post in the sporsts was the "yankees in the alcs" or something so i figured the yanks must have pulled out a W tonight. You gotta wonder whats going the happen to new york's squad in the off-season, with an all star team not making the world series once again that's gotta be depressing for owners/fans.

bbbbbb555 10-20-2004 10:53 PM

they had some great games in this series, and it is good that they finally came from behind and won.

dtheriault 10-20-2004 10:59 PM

The Pedro move was obvious. With a huge lead and a chance he might come back next year it was an easy way to let Pedro feel that the Yankees don't own him.

The Sox are going to really struggle against the better pitching of the Cards or the Astros. Does anyone know who will pitch the first 2 games for the Sox in the Series?

ShaniFaye 10-21-2004 03:09 AM

I dont watch baseball...but congrats to all you sox fans....they did indeed pull off something truly amazing!!!

jasonresno 10-21-2004 04:14 AM

I'm a yankee fan but if a team has to beat us I want it to be the Sox. So they can get their "curse" overwith and let the annoying 'reverse the curse' stuff go. if Cards make the WS than it will be close. If Houston beats cards *like i think they will* Red Sox have an easy ws win.

goppers 10-21-2004 08:01 AM

The rotation hasn't been announced. some talk that it might be Pedro, Schilling, Wake then Lowe. who knows.

jason... im a huge sox fan and I don't care at all for curse talk. I'd be happy to never hear it again, and not just because I want a WS win.

runtuff 10-21-2004 08:09 AM

Goppers thats the next question. What is the rotation for the series going to be. Lowe FINALLY stepped up. Pedro STILL looks shaky, Aroyo deserves to be in there too. And you have got to love and respect all Wakefield has done for this team all season. At least the players, the pitching will get a chance to rest, (as well as the fans) before this starts all over again saturday night!!

Glory's Sun 10-21-2004 08:37 AM

some things to point out is that yes pedro was shaky.. yes he was on short rest..but if you notice.. after the first two batters he started pitching like the OLD pedro..this could be a good sign. The bullpen is exhausted..but with an extra days rest it's going to help big time. I'm hoping Houston wins so there can be a possibility of Pedro vs Clemens in Fenway

stevo 10-21-2004 09:08 AM

I'm not a Red Sox fan, but a Red Sox Fan fan. No sox fan alive has seen their team win a championship, and only a few have seen them get this far. You guys are troopers and I'm rooting for your happiness.

SaltPork 10-21-2004 10:37 AM

I'm with you Cross-Over...what the fuck was Francona thinking?!?!? It was jsut such a stupid move, Pedro did save himself by pitching 94, 97 mph fastballs followed by a 77mph curve to get the last out in the inning though.

I have to go man the phones to try and get my Sox series tix. $190/seat/game??? POCKET CHANGE!!!!

sgn43 10-21-2004 12:30 PM

man oh man, that was a hell of a game. it's a shame that the sox are going to lose to the NL champ in the world series though ;)

Cards in 6

Ace_O_Spades 10-21-2004 12:34 PM

best quote ever?:

In hindsight, perhaps it was a mistake for the Yankees to raise a "Mission Accomplished" banner above their dugout after Game 3.

I think so

aliali 10-21-2004 12:43 PM

Nothing warms the heart more than watching the Yanks collapse in historic fashion. I'll root for the Sox in the series, although Beltran may beat them single-handly, if the fans stop bringing all those signs to the park.

That picture is desperatly tryign to be funny.

It just isn't.

archer2371 10-21-2004 07:05 PM

So, ummm, would the Ivan Rodriguez move last year to knock the ball out of the New York catcher's hand to score equal what Alex Rodriguez did? Not saying that I don't like seeing New York get beaten up on, but come on guys, that's a bit ridiculous.

I didn't watch it, cause last years WS bored me, but normally you can do whatever you want to a catcher to get him to drop a ball. It's the rules of the game. Full contact for the catcher.
