McCardell to the Chargers
I think it was for a 3rd and 6th round pick, the news is on any big football site.
I think this is a great move for the Chargers AND Bucs... The Chargers get a guy who is their best receiver since... I don't know... I must be forgetting someone (no, David Boston does not count). He gives Brees a guy who runs great routes and is very good at getting open. Combined with LT and the emergence of Antonio Gates, this should make the Chargers fairly dangerous. The Bucs get two picks for a guy who wasn't going to play for them this year, and was likely gone for nothing in the summer.

Sounds like you are a Chargers fan.
Glad you guys are happy to get him. We were glad to get rid of him. We would not have lost him this summer. He was under contract for two more years and just absolutely refused to play for us for less than 4mil per year. I had to laugh when I heard that he is now going to play for the Chargers for the amount of his original contract with the Bucs. I don't think we could have done much better than a three and a six. The guy is 38y.o. and his best days are behind him. He is a quality number two receiver, though. He does run good routes and is a veteran player. I would almost bet money that he will hold out on you next year unless you re-work his deal to pay him more money. He really made a bad business decision this time and will be looking to 'get paid' again next year. Remember, he had $5,000/day fines for missing traing camp and then something like $1,000/day fines for the regular season. Whenever a new deal gets done the teams negotiate to waive these fines but the Bucs could have stuck to their guns and enforced the fines if McCardell came back and wanted to get paid his full salary. Have you heard when the Chargers think he will be ready to play? He has not played real football since the end of last season-he skipped all off-season workouts, mini-camps and training camp. Seems like it would take a couple of weeks at least. Anyway, good luck with him. You guys seem to be putting together as nice season. We will see you in week 14.

mccardell is good, but not worth what he thinks he is. i think he'll do well enough in san diego until he decides that he wants that big salary again. |

cae,
you just knew you were going to jinx your boy, didn't you. McCardell is playing like he is pissed. And he probably is. I heard an interview with the Bucs GM today. He said McCardell lost $2Mil in his little holdout tantrum. He said SD will pay him the rest of his game checks but no more. I guarantee he will hold out next year if SD doesn't renegotiate his deal. Anyway, nice game today for you guys.
