its more of an eastern north america thing, but it is starting to gain momentum in the western parts, there are 2 pro leagues the National lacrosse league (www.nll.com) and Major League lacrosse (www.majorleaguelacrosse.com). Canada as in hockey is still the stronger of the 2 countries but not by much.

Same here. I live in the Chicagoland area. My boys got into the sport about 5 years ago. It slowly gaining popularity here. We're working towards getting it officially recognized by the high school sports association. It's a fun game to watch and a hell of a game to play.
The US is better in outdoor than indoor. I think they're the reigning World Champs, although, that's not saying much since only a handful of countries play the sport. It did start as a North American Indian game and some of the games were played over several days.
