The Buccaneers finally win! Simms or Griese?

It's been a slow, sad season so far - mixed with big injuries and stupid penalties. But the Bucs finally get a win. Chris Simms looked great until he got hurt, and Griese looked damn good too.

Rumor is now that Brad Johnson has asked to be released or traded. I would hate to see him go since he led us to our first Superbowl less than 2 years ago, but it looks like the new guys had a spark that got the offense going.

Its too bad Miami can't get anything going. They are having QB problems as well.

The question for the Bucs now is who to start next week: Griese or Simms (assuming he is healthy)?

I still like Simms - stronger arm.

Griese's line - 16/19 for 194 and a TD. Brad hasn't had a game like that in a year.

I really think Brad has lost so much arm strength that he can't make the throws anymore. It changes his game. HE knows he cant make the throws.

I was all for the change to Simms and I agree he played good before he got hurt. He took them to a score on their opening drive. His rollouts on play action really stretch a defense, and he has a cannon. He throws 25 yd outs on a rope.

I guess we'll have to see how the shoulder heals before a final decision is made but I definitely think Brad's days are numbered. I think the team had lost confidence in him. They just seem to try harder with Chris in there.

Griese did not move outside the pocket at all, but the line protected him well. When flushed out, Griese just falls down or throws it away. Simms tries to make things happen, and does.

That being said the Saints defenders are not world beaters. But I'm watching the Rams defense now and man they really do suck. I'm hoping we can beat them on Monday night and get on a roll.

Oh, and how about Clayton? They guy is a stud.

I think Simms might try a little too hard. Yes, it is a common rookie mistake, but it cost us the Seattle game. I wish he could have stayed in the entire game today. He needs the play time to learn to settle down and let his team work with him - not trying to do it himself. Hopefully he will be back next week. Now that we have shown that there is an offense there, it will take some pressure off him.
I agree that Griese doesn't move much, but I also think he has a good ability to read the field. Again, more experience will help him a lot.
I think we might be introuble as a team having 2 QB's that are so young with so much potential. Whichever one gets the starting spot for the season will likely stay for a while, and the backup will probably look elsewhere to be a starter.

Yeah, he has stepped up so far. I hope to see more passes to Charles Lee also. We got a hint of him last season a little bit, but he never got too many passes - only a few key ones. Today was the most I have seen him out there, and he looked good.

Griese is an experienced 7 year pro. He was Denver's starter for 4 years. He has 76 career TD passes. He has lots of experience.

He came to town to be a back-up. I'm sure he would rather be the starter but he knows that as a #2 QB in the NFL you are only one play away from starting.

Neither of these two guys are going anywhere.

Griese will impress you with one or two games but he doesn't have it. I was so happy when Miami got him a couple of years back but then he started stinking up the joint something horrible so don't get seduced by him and his big numbers of which have sucked the last 4 years.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the years in Denver. I knew he was in Miami - and had big hopes there. Either way, a win is a win, regardless of who is under center. Lets just hope Chris gets back in and picks up where he left off.

*Snicker*-*Snicker*,

the Buc's have Griese

*Snicker*-*Snicker*

Yeah, he looks good and quickly disapoints. Also, not very good with teammates which causes a lot of problems down the road.

He's also a proven choke artist. Seriously go and look at his numbers in Miami and his last few years in Denver...he's not that good.
Season Team Att Comp Comp % Yards TD Int Rating
2001 Denver 451 275 61.0 2827 23 19 78.5
2002 Denver 436 291 66.7 3214 15 15 85.6
2003 Miami 130 74 56.9 813 5 6 69.2
That is horric numbers. Why you would risk your team to something like that I don't know.

Griese is definetly the way to go. Though he has his problems, just look at his numbers against the Saints. Simms needs the rest anyways.

You guys are falling into the backup QB trap everybody falls into. They always do this. One big game and then everybody wants them to be the starter. Look at those numbers you want a guy with a sub 70 passer rating QBing your team?

QB ratings mean shit as long as you a mark in the W column.

But I think Simms will be the starter when he heals up. Obivously he is out for this week, but probably be back for Chicago at home. I also just here we signed another QB yesterday. Jason Garrett will be number 3 on the roster in Johnson #2.

Oh, and guess who might be coming back after the bye week???? Joe Jurevicius!!

Griese sucks. He has a good game or two and then you will see him when pusses out under pressure, makes incredibly stupid turn-overs, and blames it all on his teammates. He has a accurate pretty pass but a wimpy arm that floats alot of gimmees to the NFL's fast defenses. Bottom line, he is an emergency back-up and that is all.

Chrissy Simms is too fragile for flag football, let alone the NFL.

I agree with all of the "Griese sucks" comments above. As has been said previously in this thread, he'll have a decent game every now and then, but overall isn't a guy you can count on. That said, he may be the still be best option for the Bucs to win right now.

Hell, if you love weird stats, I heard that Griese's first start for every team he has played on has been a monday night game. And in each of those first-start-MNF games he has had, he has won. That being said, tonight is yet another one- first official start for the Bucs Monday Night at St. Louis.

*keeping fingers crossed*

Well, Griese looked great again on MNF. The Bucs didn't win but they should have. 4 turnovers and 2 missed field goals.

Gruden has already named Griese the starter for next weeks game against Da Bears, so I guess Simms will have to wait. If Griese keeps this up he will be the starter for the rest of the season. Of course, if they don't win a few, of them Gruden will put Simms in to get him some game experience.

Best news of all, McCARDELL TRADED TO SAN DIEGO. A third and a sixth round pick in this years draft. Now the questions will stop and the team can move on without him. Good riddance, if you can't find it in your heart to play for 2.5mil, you need to be somewhere else.

Go BUCS !!
