Classless Yankee fans!

Disclaimer: The views stated herein do not apply to all Yankee’s fans, only a good portion!

First let me say that I am a huge Buffalo Bills fan as well as Baltimore Orioles fan and I know how it is to be labeled an asshole solely because of my affiliation as a fan of the Bills because of the way their fans behave not only at games, but anywhere. This is something that I cannot change; however, I try to conduct myself in a manner where I would always be proud to be a fan of the Bills. ( I hope that makes sense)
With that said, I hope this doesn’t piss off the good Yankee fans, but you know who you are. I hail from Rochester, NY where our Red Wings were the farm club for the Orioles for years, so I have seen many of the greats come up through the ranks. Being the father of four, I never had the money to go to Camden Yards to see a game. My brother fulfilled my dream of some day seeing one this past weekend. He gave me two tickets and a weekend stay for my birthday. So my wife and I went this past weekend and saw the O’s beat the Yanks on Friday night, 14-8. What a beautiful ballpark!
The worst part about the whole trip was the loud, obnoxious, drunken Yankee fans. I felt bad for some of the parents that were at the game, whose kids witnessed these idiots. (For this same reason, I refuse to take my kids to another Bills game) It’s a shame that these events, which used to be family atmosphere have gotten out of hand!
I spoke to some Oriole’s fans at a restaurant the following night, and they said this happens every time the Yankee’s come to town. Police work overtime, vandalism increases. It’s a travesty that a team so rich in history and tradition should be tainted by the actions of its fans!

As a lifelong Yankee fan, some of us do know how to behave....

However, it's not just Yankee fans, I've been to ballparks all over the country, not just to see my beloved Yanks... I'm a baseball fan, whenever you mix alcohol, testesterone, and the competitive atmostphere of sports, you are going to have a few boneheads that act like idiots - I've seen it everywhere... in practically every sport, those idiots are usually louder than the well behaved people, and can often incite the drunks around them.

You want a good time at a baseball game, that's still a family atmosphere.. go to the minor league games... I go to a lot of Newark bears games - -and they're fun - -it's definitely family friendly.

I totally agree with both of you. I'm a lifelong Orioles fan having grown-up going to see them at both Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards. The roughest crowds always seem to be when the Yankees are in town. Although I have met quite a few really cool Yankee fans at the games.

As for the minor leagues they are definitely more family friendly. Both in total cost of enjoying a game and the atmosphere. I live near Harrisburg and had the great joy of attending my first Senators game this spring. It was a wonderful experience. We sat right along the 3rd base line about 3 rows back (and these were the cheap seats). Great time was had by all and we all had plenty to eat and drink (beers included) for less than $30, for 3 adults and 2 kids.

I hope I'm right in this. It's the rumor that I have heard...

But, that is exactly why they are letting people smoke pot at the soccer games in England now. They are hoping the pot will mellow everyone out and there will be fewer riots in the future. England, in case you didn't know, has some of the roudies soccer fans in the world. Quite unruly.

As a Bills and Yankees fan, I guess I'm just totally screwed, huh perripken?

To be honest, it's not just us Yankee fans. It's Mets fans, Rangers fans (I'm one of those too), Knicks fans, Islanders fans, Jets fans, Giants fans, Devils fans, Nets fans, pretty much any fans from New York. Because, as we all know, New York is the cause of all the problems in the world. Especially the Yankees.

Right?

Let me say this (and trust me, it's REALLY hard to do ).

As a tour guide at Camden Yards, I get a LOT of Yankees fans. I have to say that they are my favorite people to take on the tours. They are knowledgable about their team and baseball in general, they like a little back-and-forth trash talk (hey, I have to have a little fun ), and they are great tippers.

Sox fans are like that too, only to a lesser extent.

My problem comes from what happens when you mix the Yankees, the New York attitude, and alcohol. That's where 99% of the "classless Yankees fan" comes from. When they are sober, they can generally keep it civil.
