US Open
Anyone watching the US open?? There have been some really great matches and of course the controversy from last night with the ump in the Serena Williams/Jennifer Capriati match..I saw today where they had taken the ump out of the remainder of the Open.
Other than that I'm hoping Roddick wins..as for the women..hrmm I don't know it's up for grabs. |
The Federer-Agassi match has lived up to its billing. Federer hasn't been at his best, while Agassi has. Still, Federer has found a way to go up 2 sets to 1. You can never count Agassi out, but it'll be tough for him to make a comeback when they resume play.
I think the best match of the tourney so far was the Sargisian-Mathieu match. I'm glad I stumbled onto that one because it was great stuff. In the end, it'll probably be Federer over Roddick again for the title. |
Roddick has been beaten out by the #28 seed.

Im rooting for Lleyton Hewitt to take the Men's title. This guy has as much balls & determination as Connors had. Capriati's been kicking some ass. Even though Predator got the bad calls in their match, Capriati hung in there and sealed the deal. I pick her to take the title. Not a bad Open, not the best Open ever. |
no it's not the best open ever..but it has had good matches. I was surprised at Roddicks dimissal.. I really thought he'd go the distance..maybe referring to him as the next Sampras was a mistake?? I agree with ya clown.. Cap is looking good.. shaky at first against Serena..but then she woke up.. I'd like to see her in winning form for sure.

There's a tiger on the loose at flushing meadows :) :)
Grrrrrrrr! Federer is next! |
I was really hoping to see Agassi/Rodderic in the final, but my boy Andre got put down :( Other than that, I will pull for Henmen... us +30ers have to stick together, ya know. I don't think he will take it, but I like rooting for the underdog anyway.
RE: the bad calls against S. Williams... They should put a small LCD display in the umps chair for replay rulings. If they can do it in the NFL, then they can sure as shit do it in the US Open. She had something like 5 calls go against her. Cost her the match, IMO. Did anyone see the Jimmy Connors inteview? If I am not mistaken, he said he is coming back to the tour to play doubles. I think he even said his partner is going to be MacEnroe. Now woudn't that be the shiznit? Been great tennis, so far. Can't wait for the finals this weekend. DB. |
Wow, Henman is over 30?? Time sure flies...
Good for him...smart, crafty player  |
I wouldn't count Henman out, since Federer looked very vulnerable against Agassi, but that may have had more to do with the conditions than anything else. Hewitt has looked the best out of everyone left and I'd love to see him go at it with Federer for the title.
|
Federer just whooped Henman 6-3;6-4;6-4.
If Federer win this one, he'll make history. |

Shame Tim couldnt do it... he only really has 1 or at most 2 more years of chances at grand slams. But Federer is in another class to any other player today imo, Ferroro is the only person I would say is close to him, and he has had a horrible season. |
Federer mauls Hewitt in straight sets: 6-0, 7-6, 6-0.
http://www.usopen.org/images/pics/la...hewitt_d14.jpg http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2004/tennis/sp...federer_ap.jpg "When he plays like he did today, he's in a different league than the other players I've played the last two weeks," Hewitt said. "He's such a big-time player. He plays some of his best tennis in the big matches." Overall, Federer is 64-6 with nine titles this season. The one Grand Slam blemish on Federer's resume this year is the French Open, where he lost in the third round to three-time champion Gustavo Kuerten. "He may go down in history -- he's getting there -- as the greatest player who's ever played," John McEnroe said. * * * * I was shocked that Hewitt was bageled in 2 SETS! He came into this Open having just won 2 straight titles...16 straight matches. It's the ghost of Pete Sampras. |
All I can say is Federer is a freakin' BEAST!
|
A bit of a blow out IMO. I was hoping for something more of a good match. Federer is quite the player though. Blew the doors off of Hewitt.
|
Yeah, I definitely expected a better showing from Hewitt.
Federer is good, but he's not THAT good. I think its way to early to start using his name in the same sentence as "best player ever", as McEnroe did. |
I think we'll see what happened in the PGA tour after Tiger obliterated the competition after two years... The reast of the field will work harder and eventually when a chink in the armour finally materializes the other players will get closer and closer until they finally catch up. The mistique will dissipate and people will no longer be in awe of the guy and expect him to win. With that said, he is still a BEAST.
|
I never could have imagined Hewitt losing that badly. Federer is good but not the greatest ever. He'll have to stay on top for a few more years to come to take that title..and I don't see that happening.
