Coming Soon: TFP Football pool(s)
The regular season is about to start, and once again this year there will be a TFP weekly pick the winners football pool. The winner gets bragging rights only at this point (I haven't asked Halx if there is anything left in the prize closet). This pool will be standard - pick the winner of each game, including the Monday night game along with the total points of the Monday night game as a tie breaker. There will be weekly winners and cumulative year end winners who will participate in the playoff pool.
But why does the thread say pool(s) you ask. Well, there will be a second TFP football pool - a suicide pool. For those who are not familiar with this type of pool, or call it a different name, here is a brief explanation: A suicide pool involves everyone picking one team each week to win their game. If that team wins that week, you continue on in the pool. Sounds simple, but there is a catch: you can only pick a team to win once in the pool. In other words, if you pick the Jacksonville Jaguars to win over the Buffalo Bills, and they do, Jacksonville is no longer available for you to pick for the rest of the pool. You have to decide when to take the "sure thing" team because you can only win once with each team. If you don't get in on the first week, you are out of the pool. (Depending on the number of participants, these pools can sometimes be over quick - so there is always a possibility of a second pool later on...) The threads will be locked prior to the first game of the week (be careful on those Thursday/Saturday games). Generally that would most likely be in the AM EST on Sunday, but that all depends on the Mod in charge (thank you Spectre). Keep in mind the Mod has a life, if the thread is locked on Saturday night, so be it. I will try to open the weekly thread by Wednesday at the latest each week. Any questions, feel free to ask them. First week will open after the last preseason games end.

Hey Bones, I will volunteer to keep track again this year, however I will be moving in a couple weeks so I may be behind, or absent for awhile, so someone will possibly have to fill in for me. I ask that we limit to 64 regular players as I have revised my spreadsheet over the offseason. Last year I had about 109 I think by the end of the season and a lot of those were only one or two weekers.
IF YOU PLAN TO PLAY PLEASE POST SO I CAN START MAKING THE LIST. |

Thanks for the assistance with the tracking. I don't know that limiting the number of players to the first 64 is appropriate. This is open to everyone, and even though they may not play each week, I don't want to prevent people from playing. Let's see how things go, and then we can make a decision later. But for now, it is open to all.

YeeHaw.. I swear I'll start paying attention to football seriously one of these days. For now I just go by what I can pick up through SportsCenter in between baseball and basketball highlights.

Just a suggestion, if you want to save yourself some work - Yahoo has a Survivor FootBall pool setup already -- and you can create your own group for which the TFP'ers to join...
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/survival Oh yeah, however y'all are playing, I'm in.

At my work I'm also in a pool like your 'Suicide' pool, but with a twist....you have to pick a sure loser each week. Same rules apply. Cannot pick the same team more than once. As soon as you pick a winner, you're out. Very interesting. Flying under the radar this year - 2002 Super Bowl champs Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
