XXVIII Olympiad
I figured the Olympics deserved a thread, so here it is.
Go Michael Phelps, my Baltimorian homie!

It's kind of Olympics overload right now. To go along with the normal coverage on NBC, there's coverage on CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, and Telemundo. At one point today I reluctantly admit to watching some preliminary women's table tennis match for a bit.

Yup, US Men's Basketball sucks ballz so far.
Iverson, reportedly, doesn't even show up for practice. In other news, US Women's Softball team kicked Australia's ass today with a 10-0 victory. (sorry, Aussies) From "The Houston Chronical": Quote:

Australia have been going great so far. With a population of about 20 million, we're second on the list (by gold) and have equal amount of medals - although swimming is probably our best event(s), so later on we'll probbaly slow down a bit. Anyway, i am hooked, watching all kinds of nonsensical events and always going for the underdog or the Australian |

I'm enjoying it so far, even though the only medal UK has got is for "syncronised diving" - Phelps vs Thorpe was pretty good. Paula Radcliffe has a good chance at the women's marathon, and we should pick up some medals in the sailing and rowing...

Just finished watching the Men's 3m synch final and I have to say it was more exciting than I thought it would be. In the third round America managed to pull from 7th place to 2nd, but all the action happened on the final dives. One of the divers on the Chinese team (who had a commanding lead toward gold) failed his dive dropping China out of gold contention. Then one guy on the Russian team hit his feet on the diving board. Greece came out and did a great diving putting them into first. Then the American team was up. All they needed to beat Greece was 8.0 and 8.5's, but they messed up their dives bad, under-rotating and making huge splashes, and ended up in 5th. Leaving Greece to win the gold.

Way to go Grant Hackett....he took the 1500m for the second Olympics in a row, and broke Keiren Perkins' Olympic record. Perkins won the event for two Olympics running too, so now Aussies have dominated long distance swimming for four Olympics!
Look forward to Jana Pittman winning her hurdles run - that chick has been through hell to be there.

Did any of you see the bronze medal boxing match between Australia and Egypt (I think). The ozzie was kicking arse but everytime he hit the egyption the egyption got the point. So the ozzie lost like 24 points to 8. The crowd as well as the commentators were all booing the scorers because it was sooooo dodgy. If you hit the other guy then your meant to get the point. Not the other way around.
