So what professional athlete do you know?
After replying to another thread I got thinking about this one and haven't seen it on the board before so thought it would be interesting to know.
I used to date a girl who went to Univ. of Richmond, where Sean Casey went to school. Sean plays first base for the Reds. Did a lot of partying with that guy. Easy going and down to earth. Saw him a couple of years ago after a game in Phili. Still the same old guy. Its great to see not everyone gets caught up in the pro sports hype.

While I don't know any athletes personally, I have lived next door to the Reds' equipment manager for most of my life, and I believe a distant relative was at one time dating Rebecca Lobo...but that's about it.

At a certain SEC school in the mid-80's, I was one of the dorm managers at the athletic department dorm and dining hall. I got to know a bunch of future millionaires pretty well.
Nicest: Chuck Person Quietest: Bo Jackson Most Exactly Like You'd Expect Him To Be: Charles Barkley Funniest: Chris Morris Biggest Asshole: Kevin Greene

My cousin was dating Roger Clemens cousin back in the early 90's in Detroit and we got to meet him a couple of times. Nice guy.
I have met a lot of golfers. Fuzzy is super nice. Greg Norman super nice. Leonard Thompson fat asshole. Mostly the guys were very nice. Lomas Brown (used to be tackle for Lions) used to come into the Burger King I was managing and order a couple Whoppers and a drink. Was a nice guy. I went to school with Rob Valsevic (sp?) He played a couple years with the Nashville Predators when they first started up. I met Dino Ciccarelli. I was working at an Italian Rest and he used to come in now and then. Dino was a hockey player who scored a lot of goals. I am not saying i was friends with any of these people other than maybe Rob during H.S. Art |

My sister went to U of Central Arkansas with Scottie Pippen. She knew him a little bit. When we moved to Chicago we (my parents) opened a few frozen yogurt franchises. Well, Scottie came to the Bulls and before our grand opening my sister talked him into coming out and cutting the ribbon with us.
I don't care what anybody says about Scottie. He charged us $500 dollars for the appearance and he was so kind and soft spoken. He signed autographs the whole time and donated all of the proceeds to MS charities. He liked my mom so much that they became friends. He actually almost moved down the street from us so he had some genuine friends near him. He went on to do a lot of our grand openings, always charging only $500 and always donating it to charity. I've heard a lot of crappy things about Scottie over the years but he was always kind to my mom.

I know about 120 of them. I have a ton as clients. I was at the Ricky Proehl golf tournament last Thurday in Greensboro. Marshall Faulk was there (not a client, but I got to meet him). A bunch of other clients. I also have some various hockey players as clients. I have found that most of them really like to get drunk and go to strip clubs (go figure huh?)
I did go to school with a couple of pro players, but nobody all that famous that people would know them. I played high school basketball against Grant Hill, and played AAU ball against Allen Iverson. I never really KNEW them though. |

I work in ski industry. I've met all of the olympic skiers and snowboarders. I've skied most of the other talent in skiing today.
I don't know a single one of them. We party and have a good time but none of them are calling me on the phone when they're in town.

I talked to Charles Barkley once and tried to talk to Jordan. He doesn't talk to anyone though. Does that count for anything?
The best part was Charles gave my girlfriend the finger and sorta told her to go fuck herself. HAH! It was all I could do to not laugh in her face. She deserved it. She said something about him being so damn fat. |

Sarah Hughes, Olympic Gold Medalist, is a senior at the High School I graduated from. I met her once when she was really really little. My kid brother and her older brother played hockey together. Jason Marquis, the Braves pitcher, played high school ball against my brother. A few of the guys on his college baseball team at Binghamton were drafted and are in the minors now.
Hmmm. Maybe you should ask HIM this one. -Mikey |

I was in car audio for several years. Got to meet Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith, and several other lesser known Chiefs players.
My cousin was in management at the local Hotel closest to Arrowhead stadium. She smacked Joe Montana on the head with the sleeve of her coat. Whacked him good. Left a mark. hehe.

Vince Workman babysat me once. He's a guy that used to play for the packers, buccaneers and someone else back in the day, went to highschool with my older brother. Currently works for the packers doing some shit.
Also, my friend went to highschool with AJ Hawk who is starting for the OSU Buckeyes this year. Good guy, I just recently met him and he offered to take me and a few friends back to talk with some other players before a game some time. I know he's not technically a professional, but keep an eye out on this one, I think he'll go pro and do quite well, he did friggin awesome for the few times you seen him play last year.

Let's get this right...
Chris Clark (Calgary Flames) is my sisters, husbands, cousin. also I worked with Glen Wesley's fiance the year he was a rookie in Boston, but I never met Glen. He's from a town just west of here. Worked with and was a neighbor of an ex-Oiler for years. Met up with a bunch of members of the Calgary Stampeders football team, out backpacking in the 80's. (CFL counts as pro athletes, cause they get paid to play.) I guess these are more brushes with pro athletes than knowing them, but that's my post. |

I'm on a first name basis with the owner of the Carolina Panthers. I know it's not an athlete but it's still pretty cool especially getting free box seats I also know Julius Peppers. The dude was a freak in high school. It's pretty cool when he comes back to town. Of course his money has changed him alot..he's pretty much an ass now.

I have met Kyle Turley of the New Orleans Saints, he was a senior when I was a freshmen in high school. Fucking huge guy, even back then. Another guy, Ryan Madson, was sort of a friend of mine in high school, now he's in AAA in the Phillies organization and probably will be in the starting rotation in a year or two.

Don't know, but Donyell Marshall, formerly of UConn and the Jazz (dunno where he is anymore) used to work at a store called Sneaker Villa when he was in high school right near me. Tried me on for my Jordans back in 6th grade. He was the biggest guy I knew. He also used to do slam dunk competitions at the basketball camps around Reading, PA. Another kid I played high school baseball with is playing for the Richmond Braves right now.

Well I went to USC between 77 and 84 working on a few degrees. Got to know quite a few famous people in those years.
Marcus Allen, Anthony Munoz, Ronnie Lott, Joey Browner, Keith Browner, Roy Foster, Charles White, Ricki Ellison and oh yes, OJ made some visits. The list is a long one. USC was the place back then.
