Ohhh Yeah!!

My ex-training partner in Track and Field from ~2 years ago qualified for the OLYMPICS!!! Gary Reed (now training in Victoria, previously of Kamloops) qualified for the 800m in Athens by running a meet-record time! This makes me very happy, as he was my role model for training for many years... And proves that if you work your ass off, anything is possible... I remember him living in Shane Neimi's shadow in the 400m for years and years, and now Gary qualified for Athens and Shane didn't (Shane Neimi is the Canadian record holder in the 400m, also from Kamloops, and also a personal friend) I feel very happy for him right now. (understatement)

Ace, when I was in highschool at the provincials for hammer throw, there was a guy there from Kamloops who was the junior national record holder. His name was Dylan Armstrong, I think. Do you know the guy? I always figured he'd one day be heading to the Olympics considering what I saw him do when he wasn't more than 16 or 17 years old.

I trained with Dylan for around three years
He plateaued, never threw more than 71m (around 10m less than needed to do well internationally) and finally LOST his reign as National Champion last year... He now throws Shot His ego, and distaste for training were his downfall... He gave up mentally long before he physically couldnt cut it anymore. Good guy, I really didnt like his brother though... Actually, I hated his brother

I hear ya. His cockiness was pretty overbearing at the competitions we were both at. It was pretty enjoyable watching him fault on all his throws at the provincials, leaving me to beat him with a throw that really wasn't in his league. That was years ago, though. It's a shame he beat himself, ultimately.
Thanks for the update, though! SLM3 |
