The DBacks handed him the blown save that started the streak. It was only fitting that we ended this one also.

Gagne has 5 career blown saves. 3 of them are from the DBacks.

Haha.. just watched the Sportscenter tribute to Gagne's streak... the stats that they listed of events that happened during his streak were very funny.

7.2 million babies were born
7 ben stiller movies
3 american idols
2 j lo engagements

Me thinks he should really concentrate on quality over quantity. His last few have really been lacking in terms of entertainment.

Sorry to threadjack, continue on...

ESPN's little tribute to the Gagne streak.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/column...son&id=1835274

Nice article with some amazing statistics.

"This guy was so unhittable, a hitter was three times more likely to strike out against Gagne during the streak than he was to get a hit. (Strikeout-to-hit ratio: 207 whiffs, 71 hits). The only other closer with even twice as many whiffs as hits in that span was Billy Wagner (158 strikeouts, 77 hits)."

I agree that Ben was good in Dodgeball... but Vince Vaughn was absolute shit. He showed no emotion at all in that movie, he just looked totally apathetic. He seemed like he just wanted to collect his paycheck and head straight out of the studio.

I agree that part of his character involved the laziness but not to the degree that he did it.

ANYWAY that being said, I'm amazed Gagne took it this far. Great closer and all but think of it....... thats 84 games, the length of an NHL season. So that would be like an NHL goalie going to overtime almost every game and never losing ONE GAME to an overtime goal

...WOW.

Yesterday Gagne pitched the second 2-inning save of his career. My theory on this is: The streak is over, but he's still not seen by many people to be the best closer in the game. The difference between he and Mariano Rivera is the fact that Mariano often is called on to shut teams down for 2 or 3 innings, depending on the severity of the situation. Gagne is now gonna start creeping in on that reputation and if he's successful, we'll get all of those diehard New York fans to BOW DOWN.

Hey, when Gagne starts performing when it counts, I'd put him exactly even with Mariano.

Until then, the last big time game in front of all of America I can remember Gagne participating in...was the 2003 All-Star game. And we all know how THAT turned out

The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"
