PETITION: BAN KERRY FRASER from NHL Refereeing!

PETITION TO BAN KERRY FRASER FROM REFEREEING IN THE NHL EVER AGAIN! http://www.petitiononline.com/nofraser/petition.html

its the petition we have all been waiting for boys and girls!
lets make our voices heard!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

To: National Hockey League, National Hockey League Players Association, and National Hockey League Officials Association
Kerry Fraser is not doing his job well and has not been doing it well for over a decade it is about time that the NHL (National Hockey League), NHLPA (National Hockey League Players Association), and NHLOA (National Hockey League Officials Association) realized this and makes sure he never referee another game again.
Any official in any sport is of course going to make a controversial call with which some do not agree. Fans of any sports are prone to yelling obscenities at a referee after a call they do not like but Kerry Fraser is the only official in the NHL who fans will jeer and curse out when his name is announced as an officiator BEFORE the game. As soon as Kerry Fraser’s name shows up on the books to officiate any game fans start to worry.
Fraser's non-call in Game 6 of the 1993 Western final between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings occurred when Wayne Gretzky whacked Doug Gilmour in the nose and it stung that much more when the Great One scored the winning goal in overtime. The Kings went on to win the series. Some 10 years later, Fraser chose the night of his 1,500th career game to come clean. “It was a missed call and it was unfortunate," Fraser, 51, admitted.
Fraser, who has officiated the most games in NHL history, has missed some other big calls that have cost teams as well as himself. Fraser was dropped from the playoff rotation last spring after missing a call in an earlier round. He also blew a call on a disputed goal in the 1998 Eastern Conference final between the Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals that resulted in the league apologizing to the Sabres. Last year, Fraser was taken off the roster of active playoff referees because of all his bad calls. This year, Fraser was switched out of the referee position for Game 6 of this year’s Stanley Cup Finals in Calgary, although the League will not admit it, because they were worried he would make another bad call in his already 20 plus year long string of bad calls.
Around the league he is one of the most maligned referees and this hockey fan would be only too happy to see his time in the NHL come to an immediate end.
What does it say about a league that continues to allow this man to referee? How many chances does he get? He has cost too many teams too much and yet he is still allowed to referee. Is the NHL so desperate for referees that they cannot find someone to take his place?
We, the undersigned, plead with the National Hockey League, the National Hockey League Players Association, and the National Hockey League Officials Association to ensure that Kerry Fraser is removed from the active roster of referees and never allowed to referee another NHL game ever.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

gosh, that is nice hair. I can't vote him off. Sorry!

TheJig 06-11-2004 07:40 AM

Not just "NICE" hair....

"The Best Hair in Hockey"!

Midlandmadman 06-11-2004 08:08 AM

When I saw this topic I thought that 50% of the comments would be about his hair......I was wrong.... Its 75%................

Cowman 06-11-2004 02:45 PM

Kerry Fraser has always been a great ref. The petition being up for at least 2 days and only having 89 signatures is a testament to that..

BigGov 06-11-2004 03:02 PM

*Brings up the NHL Payroll*

Lets see...Bettman...Fraser...Cowman...nothing out of the ordinary.

Some people refuse to "sign" online petitions because they realize they never accomplish anything.

Soggybagel 06-20-2004 03:29 PM

First off its not like Kerry has a bias towards anything and as far as I'm concerned if you have ref'd over 1500 games then you will miss some calls and unfortunatley for some its in a huge game. The nature of hockey makes it hard to see everything and I concur that if I had really loved a team that had gotten screwed by him I'd be pissed. I think the lack of calls in this years Stanley Cup and having Fraser pulled in game six had more to do with the fact that Calgary and the greater Calgary population was basically chanting conspiracy and to have Fraser in to ref would only have made it ten times worse had any call been even close to questionable. Overall, he has fucked up some, but not enough to have him barred from refereeing ever again.

BigGov 06-20-2004 07:18 PM

That's why they have this great invention called "Instant Replay". When it's close, you skate over to this fat guy holding a telephone and ask for some smart guy with a fancy computer to tell him what actually happened.

Go_AVS 06-20-2004 09:34 PM

He, like any ref, has made some bad calls in his carreer but not enough to get him kicked out.

The biggest thing he has to do is wear a damn helmet. We all know there is a lot of hairspray on his hair, but not enough to stop a puck.

docbungle 06-21-2004 09:08 AM

I think he's a great ref.

choskins 06-21-2004 09:27 AM

It might have helped if the person writing the petition had used a spell checker or grammar checker. I usually don't nitpick in forums about grammar, but if you are sending it to the League, it is a must.

monkeydriven 06-23-2004 09:40 AM

He's horrendous...but Gregson is the worst....

the_marq 06-23-2004 09:53 AM

This is stupid:

A) Online petitions are about as effective as eating Pez.
B) Give the guy a break, he does the best job again, reffing is hard.

BigGov 06-23-2004 09:57 AM

No, he doesn't deserve a break.

If he had it reviewed, he would deserve a break. Instead he had his head up his ass, and was so sure of himself that he just fucked over the team that should have won the cup.

silent_jay 06-23-2004 10:18 AM

Alright then Jimmy4, you go and try out to be an NHL ref and then get back to us, . I have been hard on refs my whole life but come on ban Kerry Fraser. Then you still have Don Koharsky, Mick Muggo, Angus(he was shit when he reffereed my games in junior, how he made it to the show I'll never know), and let's not forget Terry Gregson, and hell every other ref who has ever screwed up.

Maybe when you screw up someone somewhere who knows nothing of the circumstances should start an online petition to get you fiered. Give the guy a break unless you think you can do better, which I doubt you can.

YOU GOT OWNED

silent_jay 06-25-2004 09:07 PM

Who got owned?

matteo101 06-26-2004 12:20 PM

Jimmy4 of course.

KWSN 06-27-2004 07:45 AM

Yeah... if any ref should be banned it's Blaine Angus. That guy is a fucking moron. I hate the Islanders with a passion but I go to their games because I like watching hockey and the tickets are dirt cheap, and refs a good deal of their games. The calls he makes are some of the most MORONIC calls that I have EVER seen. IIRC he was the guy who didn't call a penalty on Darcy Tucker when he give Mike Peca the hipcheck that kept him out for months with a knee injury, AND the one who didnt give Gary Roberts any more than a minor for doing a combination of elbowing and charging at the same time that knocked Kenny Jonsson out of a game and I think gave him a concussion.

What an idiot.

Fraser does his job and he does it as well as any other referee. Plenty refs make more/worse mistakes than him, its just when he makes them it seems to usually be when the stakes are high and there's a lot of people watching. I think you should follow his games during the regular season before you say something like "he should be banned." He's not that bad.

Blaine Angus sucks though.

Quadraton 06-27-2004 09:54 AM

Bah, it's the same old story. A fan sits way up in his lofty seat, overlooking the entire rink, can see everything, including that missed call, and suddenly he thinks he can do a better job than the ref down on the ice.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Being down on the ice is whole different game. You don't have the advantage of being able to see everything. Players get in the way of other players, literally dozens of things are happening all at once, and on top of that, no matter how fast you think the game is sitting in the stands, its at least 10 times as fast on the rink.

As much as refs piss me off sometimes, I just think that most people are too quick to judge them without ever having to experience their roles.

I used to be on a hockey team and was the worst player, but I had good hockey sense so they let me ref from time to time (they had a shortage at the rink i played at). I totally understand that it is much harder to ref from on the ice than in the air but some of the calls that Angus has blown have just been disgusting, and worse, he was looking RIGHT at them. There's no excuse for that.

streak_56 07-06-2004 02:06 AM

I am a referee and I find it hard for someone to scrutinize what we do. I understand that its the NHL and these referees should be tops in the world but everyone misses a call from time to time. And the first thing I was taught was that no matter what you do as a referee, no one will completely agree with you.

Panopticon 07-07-2004 07:49 PM

This is the guy that always gets into arguments with Mario, I believe.

Lemieux hates his guts.

I signed it.
