general basketball question

I live in Europe (Belgium), no student and play basketball.

Over here basketball teams are NOT related to school. There are different teams starting from youth to seniors. We have different leagues, going from professionall to recreational.. I play in between (I get a little money: 50€ when we win a game and about 150€ every month as standard payment) So basicly everyone who likes to play basketball can start play in some competion over here...

I was wondering how things are in the states, all I hear about is high school , college and then pro NBA

CBA is that college ?

So lets say I move to the states, i'm no student anymore, is there a way for me so I can play basketball in team and be in some kind of competition (maybe with small paychecks??)

As long as you are out of high school, you can sign with a pro team over here.

You can go to the CBA or ABA, which are independent of the NBA, or the NBDL, which is the NBA's minor league.

I guess the question is, are you a GOOD basketball player ;)

it's possible... but unlikely. like djtestudo said, it depends how good you are ;)

That sounds like an interesting system you have in Belgium. I'm guessing you wear jerseys plastered with sponsors that are responsible for that small paycheck. Unfortunately, the US has nothing like that. After college (intramural or division), I can't think of anything too competitive except for very casual YMCA-type leagues. But, like others have mentioned, if you're very skilled, there are leagues like the CBA.

you are right we have sponsors on our jerseys. I find it somehow dissapointing. USA, THE country with the most entertaining, different, high level sports you can imagine, but very little to nothing for the little men :(

no offence, but that kinda sucks... so there's no way to enjoy basketball when you are not good enough ? Over here we even have teams sponsers by pubs, so they play a game and afterwards it's beer time :D = perfect way to keep in shape and have al the fun of beer :)

basicly the states are somehow a passive sports country, only possible to do sports when you have a level high enough... pitty

There are leagues for you to play in, but they don't get any publicity, and more often than not you pay to play in them, not the other way around.

I think your asking, "What's the accronym for college basket ball?" Right?

I believe it's the NCAA. Actually, I think that covers all college sports, not just basketball. I dunno.

There are several leagues you can get into that you can win tournaments for money, but nothing that will get you a steady paycheck unless you are GOOD. Unfortunately, basketball is probably the number one recreational sport in America, which means everyone plays it, and the number of really good players is much higher.
