Not sure if you guys keep up with the cartoon Foxtrot, but yesterdays was perfect if you don't understand NASCAR.

I used to hate NASCAR, till a coworker dragged me to a race. Now I am hooked. You won't 'get' NASCAR till you've been to a race, and start to follow it closely. If you have a favorite driver, and begin to learn the in's and out's of the racing, and some of the things that go on off the track, then you'll get into it more. I've also managed to meet about 10 different drivers in the last two years. I've never even thought of being able to get near a basketball or baseball player.
F1? Now THAT is boring!!! The same guy wins all the time, if two cars touch they both crash and are done for the day, the whole car is run by a computer, there is like 30 guys over the wall for pit stops, there aren't any Americans in it, etc etc. Jeff Gordon sucks, Dale Jr. sucks, and Kevin Harvick can kiss my butt!!!! |

I've been to 5 Cup races, and I've grown NOT to like it. As for F1 vs Nascar... -the same winner all the time = boring for you -43 cars driving in circles for 3 hours = boring for me -F1 cars driven by computers = boring for you -Cup cars that are about a technologically advanced as a tin cup = boring for me -unlimited guys servicing and F1 car = boring for you -forcing slower pits by limiting the pit crew = boring for me -F1 has fragile cars = boring for you -being able to bump and bang all day tells me Cup drivers can't drive well enough to stay off each other = boring for me Peace!

I think the main problem with nascar is the point system. In the old days they got more points for leading laps then they do now. So they used to "race" more during the race. Now they wait till the last 20 laps to even begin to think about really racing.

Nascar appeals to me for a few reasons....
1) I drive a car and I like to go fast, but in my family station wagon hitting 180 mph just isnt feasible. These guys are around that speed or higher on most days...... What a thrill that would be. 2) For rolling Advertisments they look pretty cool! The cars look great in real life. Very colorful and shiny. (who dosen't like colorful and shiny?) 3) Unpredictability......... last week was a classic example. (It would take too long to explain what happend last week.) 4) Parity.... sp?.... The guy that quaifies first for a race on a 1 and a half mile track is about .5 to .7 seconds faster then the guy that qualifies 38th. 5) Although most of nascars tracks are circular to some degree, they differ alot in banking and distance so a 2.66 mile track with 36 degree banking (Talladega) is wayyyyyyy different than a 1/2 mile track with 8 degree banking (Martinsville). Thats just a few reasons why it is appealing to me. GO #6 MARK MARTIN!!!!!
