Corey Dillon to the Pats.
Sick, absolutley sick. That offensive line, with an explosive back like Dillon, back to back Superbowls, could be scary.

Could be scary, or not. I remember people insisting Tampa Bay was a lock to repeat last year, but look what happened to them. You never know until they play the games.
I don't think he can hurt them though. Looks like a great move. |
depends on his attitude & how much he has left in tank...
|
He is a great back, but he has some injury concerns and we will see how his attitude gels with Belicheck. I don't think they will repeat because it is so much harder when every team you play is playing their hardest to knock off the defending champs. Look back at the list, every team for the last few years has been a surprise and snuck up on the league. The Pats might be the only exception because of their last win over the Rams, but they missed the playoffs in between, so many wrote it off as a fluke. This will tremendously help the Pats because they haven't had a running game since Curtis Martin left, but it doesn't make them a lock for the title.

Finally Dillon is gone..... I wanted him long gone before this year.... but now that Cinnci.... has a decent offense (not great not bad just average) I'm glad hes going to be long gone...... Cinncitnati is now Kitnas city

I like Antwan Smith too. I know hes not the greatest running back, but he got the job done. The Pats dont need Dillon.

I dont know about this move... it gives me an uneasy feeling.. a feelin of impending doom for the Patriots

Yep.
He isn't that good. Trust me. Corey Dillion is a top 10 RB in the league when he isn't on the Bengals, and even somethimes when he was. This will only help the Patriots get to the AFC Championship, where they will lose in heartbreaking fashion to the Ravens. |
I agree with dj that he won't take them back to the Super Bowl, but that's not his fault, it's just that the AFC is too good. This year this AFC East in particular will beat up on the Pats more than they could last year and they won't make it through the playoffs, because there they'll face the Broncos, Titans, or Colts. Dillon has been a great player and I love him, but I don't think he's going to fit in with Brady's short, high percentage passing game.
As for them losing to the birds in the AFC Championship...keep dreaming dj. |
The ultimate irony will occur when the suddenly ferocious Bengals have a better record than the Patsies. :D
Good riddance... |
Too much baggage!

I don't agree that he won't fit in with the short passing game as wrongfullyaccuzd suggested though. I'm pretty sure the Pats ran that offense because they didn't have the running game. The were terrible at running out the clock because, while they could trust Smith not to put the ball on the carpet, they couldn't trust him to grind out first downs. I'd like to think that if Weis and Belicheck will know how to use a weapon like Dillon. we will see though. I'm curious about the whole team chemistry this year. People like Bruschi and Harrison are really going to have to step up in the locker room. If Ty Law is on the team next year he won't be helpful, but the man wants his money, and he will be cut next year, so it's in his best interest not to tank it on the field. That said who knows what he will be like when not on the field. Dillon is saying all the right things now, lets hope they are true. Should be an interesting season for the pats. the AFC east should be pretty good and everyone they face will be gunning for them. I hope it's not like the 02-03 season where they missed the playoffs totally, but it wouldn't shock me. << on the subject of distractions... the year terry glenn did his thing the pats won the superbowl. Last year even though the team really was an emotional mess after the lawyer milloy trade they pulled themselves together after a horrible loss to the bills and had an amazing season. This year I hope they can repeat that sort of thing with a grumpy Ty Law. >> |
I'm not a Pat fans, but how many times did you doubt what they could do last year? Every week, "The Pats are going down this week". That led to what, 17 straight?
Nuff said. |

Yeah, I would say that Dillon was a good trade-158 yds on the ground...for one person...on the Pats?? When was the last time that happened...combined yardage included? Had to be when Curtis Martin was on the Pats...a long time ago. Based on early season results the Pats seem to have an easy schedule and the AFC East isn't really shaping up to be too tough this year. The Jets haven't really played a tough team yet, just the Bungles and SD, not really hard to win those games. The Dolphins and Bills....you're kidding me, right? The Pats should win the division, but that's the furthest prediction I'll make. I'll wait to see what other teams will make up the playoff grid. The only team that makes me nervous in the playoffs is the Ravens, but even then as long as the Pats control the ground game, they should win.
