2Conn...
I am a student at Uconn.... yes i was part of the riot after the men won, infact you can see one of my friends in an AP photo. BUt i have 2 questions for the board... First do you think the women's championship should be played before the mens, i personaly belive it should, i feel by letting the women go second a large number of people are "march madnessed out", so the women lose a lot of support. My other ? is does anyone that watched the women's game think they were overshadowed by the fact all the announcers had to ask them about was both teams winning, not the fact they had won 3 titles, not the fact that DT is one of the best players every in women's basketball... anyway let me know what you all think.

I agree that having the womens' championship after the mens' probably decreases the viewership a little bit, but I just don't think there is as much support there period. I'm not trying to be a dick, that's just what I think. In fact, I don't even follow any college basketball except to have a basic idea of who won. It is pretty crappy though that they spent more time talking about both teams winning when the womens' UConn team had won 3 straight and been to the Final Four all 4 years of DT's career there. I think it is understandable that they focused on this, because it is a tremendous accomplishment. What a great thing to be able to put in your school's brochure. Congrats and enjoy the partying.

I think that it would probably be better if they moved the women's Final Four back two days to Friday, so that you'd have those two then, the men's FF on Saturday, the women's championship Sunday night, and the men's Monday night.
As for the talk, I believe the fact that both teams won their championships is the main news story there, because of the fact that it hasn't happened before, and with the growing popularity of the women's games, it is becoming a bigger deal to have both teams that good at the same time. I know that at Maryland, we just had our women's team make the tournament for the first time since '92, the year before our men's team started their current streak of tournament appearences. The two teams have never been good at the same time until now. The fact that UConn has won three straight women's titles is amazing, and I congratulate them.

Anyway, I could care less about womens hoops. It bores me to death, and I could care less if UConn's womens team rattled off 20 straight championships. I couldn't even name one player on their team, and the only way I might watch the womans championship would be if they played naked, and even then I doubt I would. |

That's the link about the game being the most watched. I have to admit I didn't watch it. I was already too pissed off about the men's game to watch UConn win again.

I dont watch girls hoops too often. If i do watch its the championship or final four games. I like to watch Tennessee play, because of the traditon Pat Summit has brought to that program. Also, it was pretty interesting, when the ladies Connecticut team won like 60 games in a row, and to see how many they could win. It is getting more popular though.

Actually, I wasn't too upset that my Jackets lost to Uconn; I really like their team, and I think that, for the most part, they're an incredibly talented team that certainly deserved to win. Not that I liked them beating us at all. I am incredibly proud of every single Tech player who was out there, though; those guys played their asses off every night, and when it showed that one person wasn't going to be able to carry them through each game of the tournament, another stepped up. They did very well. Uconn deserved to win, though, and in both tournaments, from what I'm told about the women's side. Not to change the topic of the thread . . . And, by the way, I think their men's team will be very interesting to watch next year as both C.V. and Josh Boone both mature futher into the more leader-like roles that they can fulfill. Good luck to y'all. |
