I am in total agreement....

However, I would not be shocked if none of the series turn out this way. The first round is going to be a killer round to watch. There are some great matchups all the way around. Any team in the playoffs could beat one another.

This should be a memorable Cup Series and remember, it could possibly be the last one for a while with the lockout looming....

If you think the NHL is going under next year you need some help, if you meant a lock-out then you are on the right track.

DDDDave 04-06-2004 01:03 PM

Everybody so far has picked my Lightning ....

If this were a football pool I would pick the Isles just on principle.

Anybody goin' to the games ?

Got my tix for Thurs at the Ice Palace. :) :)

a lock out dam near killed baseball and that was the biggest sport at the time

a lock out will kill five to ten teams in the nhl dont belive me wait and see

Man, Silent Jay, you are the biggest jinx ever. You broke two of the biggest rules a fan has about his or her team going into playoffs. For one you never ever predict a sweet. And secondly you never have any pictures of your team with the cup. Tsk tsk. I hope the leafs lose in 4 just to smite you.

you must have made up these rules yourself because pics of the Leafs and the cup are everywhere open your eyes, are there not pictures of the Canucks with the cup,..... oops I forgot why are there no pics like that again.......oh yeah they've never won the cup thats where these rules came from a disgruntled fan with not much sense. I really don't care about your stupid little rules, nor do I believe

I don't believe that a lockout will kill any teams, but I also think the NHL would be better without so many teams and the talent spread so thin, I mean come on there are some terrible players in the league today who wouldn't have gotten a second look 15 or 20 years ago, and that is what causes the stupid plays and the lack of respect that the NHL has today, but just watch suddenly plays that would have resulted in penalties in the regular season suddenly have a blind eye turned to them in the playoffs, the refs and the NHL and the talentless players of the NHL are the cause of the NHL's demise, not a lockout not anything else. Oh yeah I hardly doube the loss of 5-10 teams will kill the NHL or put it under as you put it.

Oh yeah and one more thing I forgot to let you know count the Cups in the pic and figure out how many Cups the Leafs have won and tell me if the numbers are similar. Thanks I'm done.

Thanks to the eastern papers saying that it's going to be an upset. Think again, "experts".

silent_jay 04-07-2004 08:26 PM

Yeah "Kipper" isn't exactly playing stellar, and Clouthier is playing decent, but it is only the first game, so anything can and will still happen.

sherpahigh 04-07-2004 08:38 PM

I do gotta give it to Cloutier tonight. He's doing pretty good.

I cannot believe the score so far. 5-3. Unreal. If it wern't for all these shitty penelties we've been taking we'd be right in this. Don't count us out yet though, we'll be there to the end.

Go Flames!!!

Nikilidstrom 04-07-2004 08:46 PM

I'm way too superstitious, so there is no way I'm braggin, but I thank god Detroit took care of business tonight. I couldn't handle losing to Nashville because Vokoun went Giggy on 'em. Just getting that first win under their belt should boost their confidence, especially Legace, who played an awesome game tonight.

Ace_O_Spades 04-08-2004 09:39 AM

I think in the past three days i've seen almost every possible spelling of Cloutier

there is no 'h' in there people!!!

;)

anyways, yes, these playoffs are shaping up to be very tight, the refereeing is strict, which is not necessarily a bad thing because it makes each team play more disciplined.

here's to hoping the rest of the playoffs are a success

silent_jay 04-08-2004 02:01 PM

yeah but what can you do with spelling his name, I'm just glad they aren't talking about a russian there would be a lot more spellings then.

Quadraton 04-08-2004 06:47 PM

I notice a lot of people picking the Senators over the Leafs, which is funny, considering expectations of a Senator's victory up here in the nation's capital is at an all time low.

And for those that say "Leafs in 4", don't get so cocky. The Senators aren't that pathetic against the Leafs.

Would anyone be able to say that in the beginning of the playoffs 2 years ago when Montreal took Boston out first round? :D

matteo101 04-09-2004 10:34 AM

Yeah that is definetly true. Thats what I love about playoffs anything can happen. If Theodore gets hot that the habs can easily win some games. But I think it kind of is in the hands of Theadore. Oh yeah good job Sens last night.

It was a fluke, not to mention goalie interfearence on Dallas' third goal. The refs are almost as blind in the playoffs as they were during the regular season, and they were the worst I've ever seen during the regular season! But nothing we can do about it. The Aves will rise up and win the next two.

matteo101 04-12-2004 11:08 PM

Whats up with these people who have there avatars and names and locations devoted to the Colorado Avalanche. Who are these people, and where did you all come from? Anyways, Ya I hope the stars win, but if the avs manage to win the serious than I hope the blues beat SJ, so that there can be a Canucks vs Avs, series in round two, if the canucks beat the flames.
GO CANUCKS.

well, hindsight is 20/20. the devils did struggle at the end of the regular season, but with brodeur in net, i had to give them the edge going into the playoffs. it'll be tough for them to win the series at this point, but i still think they're capable of doing it.

They still have a chance of winning it, but it'll be very tough. I hope not though. I'd rather see the Flyers move on than the Devils... but then that's just me.

What I'm curious to see is how the Canadian Matchups work out. Vancouver's lead goalie is out on the DL list for the rest of this series. I hope this gives Calgary enough of an advantage to knock Vancouver out of the playoffs. Then there's the Toronto vs Ottawa matchup which is also tied at 2-2. Those are great games to watch as well, and it will be fun to see how that turns out. I think that both of those matchups will go to 7 games.

DDDDave 04-15-2004 08:28 AM

Did you guys see St.Louis pick that defensemans pocket and score shorthanded last night? Awesome.

Three shutouts by The 'Bulin Wall.

Hope we can keep it up, send the Isles home early, and rest up for the next round.

Being a Sens fan, I feel your pain with Belfour. Tonight is a big game.

Belfour is the man, Lalime well not so the man, GO LEAFS GO.

Nikilidstrom 04-17-2004 02:13 PM

The refs tried to give the game to Nashville, but the Red Wings finally emerged victorious. While I really was hoping they could have scored a few more goals, they put on a defensive clinic over the last 2 games that was impressive.

Unfortunately, my 1st round picks aren't lookin as impressive, at least in the number of games its taken teams to win.

Still awaiting the Sens result but so far, not so good. If these were placed in Vegas I would only have a possible 2 out of 8 (if the Sens win).

Here are my results...

EAST

Lightning in 5 (correct)
Bruins in 6 (not even close since they did not win)
Devils in 6 (again not close for the above reason)
Sens in 7 (still could happen)

WEST

Wings in 5 (ended up 6 but got the right winner)
Blues in 7 (not close - Sharks in 5)
Flames in 6 (winner correct but 7 games)
AVS in 6 (got it done faster than expected)

Predictions to come for round 2 as soon as we know who is in it but in the West I would like to see an AVS - Flames WCF. Doubt it would happen but I would like to see it. (don't even think I could put it down for the next round predictions)

GO AVS!!!

Kaos 04-20-2004 07:00 PM

I picked all the winners (but not all the right number of games) for all 8 except the Canucks....man I was waaaaay off on that one

sherpahigh 04-20-2004 07:27 PM

Well not too bad. 6 out of 8 right, at least as far as the teams go.

Too bad about the Sens tonight. It's gonna take more than that to kill the high from the flames moving on to the 2nd round though.

Bring on Detroit. Go Flames!!

matteo101 04-20-2004 07:39 PM

Ouch, I only predicted three teams correctly to win the series. That is really really bad. Shall we continue on with are round 2 picks.

In the East:

Tampa Bay(1) vs. Montreal(7)

Philadelphia(3) vs. Toronto(4)

And in the West:

Detroit(1) vs. Calgary(6)

San Jose(2) vs. Colorado(4)

My picks are
Tampa Bay in 6
Toronto in 7
Detroit in 6
San Jose in 7

All the series' are really really hard to choose.

matteo101 04-20-2004 08:34 PM

Looks like there is now a post. Oh well just dont mind that.
