ESPN Dream Job

Who were you going for?

Out of the top 4, I went for Zach, but since he got cut, I went for Mike Hall

i concur.

although aaron knows his sports trivia, i dont think he has the personality that mike shows on screen. minus maggie, i think any of the four could have been the winner tonight, but im happy with the outcome.

i still think espn should hire zach to do something. maybe even host around the horn. i think he has amazing potential and his energy just shows well on camera. if they dont snatch him up, you know fox sports will.

All four of them would make great anchors. I did think Mike was probably the best after his SC segment with Karl Ravitch.

Zach would make a great ATH host. Aaron and Maggie would probably be really good on ESPNews.

My money's on 1) Quiggs getting a gig on The Best Damn Sports Show, and 2) one of the two terrible black guys getting a anchor job with Comcast SportsNet in DC (because everyone there sucks already).

I was watching Sportscenter this morning, and they had the guy answering sports trivia to determine his yearly salary. They started him out at $70,000, and they gave him 5K for every correct answer he got. If he answered the question wrong, he would lose 10K and be done.

Here's the thing, the questions they asked him were so easy, anyone who has been even remotely been paying attention to sports the past few years could have gotten them right.

Anyway, he answered 5 right and then he chose not to answer the last question, setting himself up with a tidy $95,000 a year salary.

I was pulling for Zach myself. I thought he was the one with the most personality, and had creative writing. Maggie had gotten better as it went on, but just didn't cut it. Mike was a good pick, but would have rather seen Zach. Now I'm hoping Zach gets something out of it.

I wanted Mike Hall or Maggie to win(Maggie merely so sportscenter would have a female anchor whos not as annoying as who they have now.) so Im happy with the result. And he gets 95k a year, not bad at age 22.

It will be interesting to see how the other anchors treat him once he gets on the air.

I'm sure most will be very professional---I just see the jealousy side. This kid jumped to Sportscenter and 95 grand a year in a few weeks, while someone else had to pay their dues in Billings, Montana doing live shots from JV girls field hockey games until they could finally get to ESPN.

Wow, great point. That never crossed my mind. Did anyone happen to catch when Mike's first show would be and/or which SportsCenters he would be doing?

Personally, I was rooting for Aaron. Hopefully he winds up with something decent.

I think the big question is how long will he last. Does anyone know what sort of length of contract Mike received? $95k a year is nice, but if this is a one year deal, it's basically an elaborate internship.

I think it is a one year deal, which could be a very short visit.

None of the MTV VJ winners have lasted....the only one with any success is Dave Holmes---and he finished 2nd. He was on MTV for several years and is now on FX.

my not-so-deep thoughts on the subject:

1. Maggie was kinda cute, had nice tits, and should've worn something a bit more revealing.
2. Zach was the most talented performer, but Al Jaffe just simply didn't like him (probably from the very 1st episode).
3. Quigs was horrible... but he would've been hilarious to watch!

I saw his little spot on Sportscenter the following night and I thought he did quite well. With a little more refining and some decaf, I think he can do real well.

He reminds me of a very young Craig Kilbourn, so maybe he'll have a late night talk show in 10 years.

On PTI, Mike Wilbon made an excellent point that ESPN had a chance to break out of their typical clean-cut, WASP sports anchor stereotype with Zach, but ignored it, a point I have to agree with entirely. Zach was easily more knowledgable than Mike and Aaron put together, and the only reason he didn't get picked was due to his appearance, something he even altered, to a degree, when asked. As far as I'm concerned, ESPN made a mockery of the entire affair by not choosing Zach.

Maybe that's what they want to have when they get the chance?

I believe he said something to the effect of that the whole point of the show was to find the next Sportscenter anchor, and that Aaron and Mike were the two that best fit that mold, and that he thought Zach was better fit for something else. But he seemed to regret going with conventional wisdom, as he ranted "Zach! I blew it! I blew it!"

He was given a sports quiz on the Sportscenter following the final episode where the more questions he answered, the higher his salary would be for this year. He got to $95,000 before not knowing an answer and quiting.

The question he stopped on in the salary quiz was "How many grand slam titles has Andre Aggasi won?"

Stewart Scott was good as the host of Dream Job, but otherwise, I think he's deplorable. He reminds me of the way Bill Belamy was on MTV. The network has made him the "token black guy", and everything he does is stereotypical and borderline offensive to me. You think he has any street cred? The guy is a total poser.
