England destroy the Windies in second innings

woohoo!

I think there is still a weakness in England's middle order, and we need a quality spinner to compete in the games that really matter - The Ashes. but our batting is looking solid, we have a soild keeper, some strong seam bowlers... and what a great performance today!

First Test, Jamaica, day four:
West Indies 311 & 47 lost to England 339 and 20-0 by 10 wickets

England have won the first Test against West Indies by 10 wickets after a sensational seven-wicket haul by Steve Harmison in Jamaica.

The fast bowler's perfect line and length was too good for the West Indies batsmen as they capitulated to their lowest ever Test total of 47.

Harmison became the most successful bowler in Sabina Park history when he took 7-12 as he stunned the home crowd.

England wrapped up an unbelievable win before lunch to lead the series 1-0.

Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick had an easy job of hitting the 20 runs needed for victory.

West Indies had started the day on eight without loss.

Opener Chris Gayle was the first to go and the start of Harmison's haul when he was brilliantly caught by Graham Thorpe at third slip for nine.

Ramnaresh Sarwan became Harmison's next victim and completed a Test match pair.

He was rather unfortunate though as he was given lbw by Australian umpire Daryl Harper to a delivery which appeared to strike him above the line of height of the stumps.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul came in next, promoted up the order to protect Lara's dislocated little finger.

But he lasted a mere seven balls before also falling without scoring when he unluckily played forward and the ball bounced under the bat, between his legs and onto the stumps to give Harmison 3-5.

Out strode Lara but he also went for a duck, when Matthew Hoggard, who had played a supporting role until now, teased him into an attempted drive which was edged to Andrew Flintoff at second slip.

The Yorkshire seamer followed that success with a superb reaction catch to remove opener Devon Smith, scorer of a first innings century, for 12.

The West Indies were left reeling on 21-5 but wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs played positively, hitting 15 off 21 balls, before Harmison pounced once again.

Two balls later Harmison claimed his fifth victim when Tino Best edged behind to wicket-keeper Chris Read.

Adam Sanford went for one run and Harmison was in seventh heaven when Fidel Edwards was out for a duck.

There was huge celebrations among the England fans but stunned silence from the home crowd, who witnessed West Indies' lowest-scoring innings in their Test history when they were bowled out in 25.3 overs.

England look menacing D:

I'm certainly not looking forward to the NZ tour of England.

Our test team is shockingly mediocre.. but our one day team could give you a run for your money (I think ).

seriously, its not that difficult...if you're brought up on it...

lol

harmison - 7 for 12... that is absolutely amazing.
i mean, thats like some of those scores i remember from school when some really big kid was thundering them down on some little, younger kids.

lara and chanderpaul... thats just disappointing.

for a team with such glaring talent like Lara, Jacobs and Chanderpaul to fuck up this badly... it really shows that this is a team that NEEDS help.
i mean, its not like the Windies are minnows like Bangladesh or Holland... they owned the '80s.

with cricket wins like this and the Rugby World Cup win, could this herald a new era of British sports dominance??

doubt it!! haha

but i guess we'll have to wait to see how good the Poms are when they play NZ... or us in the next Ashes Series.

but while we're talking about cricket... Australia is getting a real run for our money against Sri Lanka, and we've only just recently been taught a bit of a lesson by India.
