St. Joseph's is overrated. They should be left out of the NCAAs
They play no one all year and are happy to go undefeated in the regular season. I say that since they don't get the automatic bid lsoing to Xavier today, they should not go! Schedule some real teams and get back to us. I know it won't happen, but I sure hope that they are a 2 seed and they are in the same bracket as Maryland (number 6 team in the ACC). Maryland is a likely 7 seed. That would be perfect. in the second round a team from the bottom of a real conference plays a team that hid from real competition all year and gets eaten!
Oh wait - I guess I am not being fair. They did play St. Bonneventure twice. . . |

I realize that it's easy to say this AFTER a loss, but they clearly have enjoyed an easier schedule.
They'll prove their worth (or lack thereof) in the first 2 rounds of the NCAA. With no inside presence, they'll be lucky to get to the Sweet 16.

Yeah, they lose in the conference tournament, to a team who was already in the NCAAs, and on a "neutral" floor, which to give an example is like calling Maryland's ACC tourney games this weekend in North Carolina on a neutral floor.
They aren't that overrated. They still deserve a #1 seed somewhere. Perferably if Maryland gets an 8/9 seed in the same bracket

Poor guys. They probably got so caught up in being number 1, they couldn't focus on the game. Now on message boards and news stations all over the country they are going to be considered "overrated." Please. I still think they should be invited, far weirder things have happened in the NCAA tournament.

I'd been saying that St Joes was overrated from mid season, when they started to get in the undefeated hype wars with Duke. Regardless of their losses, Duke was an outstanding team who will likely be looking at yet another final four. We've already seen how a mediocre St. Joes team does under pressure against Xavier, and I think that they'll be truly lucky if they manage to get past the second round.

St. Joes has one bad game, now people think they suck. That's just dumb. St. Joes beat Xavier earlier in the season, and they handed a great Gonzaga team one of their two losses, and I think right now Gonzaga is waaaay better than stinky Stanford.
The odds of going unbeaten all year are just very slim. It's just hard to do with all the talent out there. One thing people need to remember is that great guard play always carries teams in the tournament, and nobody can deny that St. Joes has the best backcourt in the nation. St. Joes will make the Sweet 16, and after that it's all luck. Anything can happen in March Madness, and that's why college hoops is far superior to college football. |

I don't consider it one bad game. They played 1 team in the top 25 all year, and won by if I remember correctly 5, then blown out by an unranked team by 20, they were down by 37 at one point in that game. They played a 5-22 team and a 7-22 team this year, one of them twice.
I'm just not sure, they played a very poor game, a very weak schedule, and play in a pretty weak conference. They haven't proven to anyone they are the powerhouse the writers think they are. It was the worst loss by a #1 team to an unranked team in NCAA history. Best backcourt in the nation? Nah. One of the best, absolutley. The most talented, probably. But, your absolutley right about the guards in the NCAA Tournament, and I woulden't bet against the St. Joe's guards. But even then, I'm just not sure how good they'll be against a good pressing team like Duke. Last edited by Kurant; 03-12-2004 at 10:35 PM.. |
