Niners cut Garcia/TO allowed to seek trade
LINKAGE HERE
Garcia officially released The 49ers released quarterback Jeff Garcia on March 2, ending his five-year tenure with San Francisco. Garcia's release came before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline for all teams to be in compliance with the NFL's $80.6 million cap ceiling. The 49ers also released two-time Pro Bowl guard Ron Stone in an attempt to get under the cap. The news comes as no surprise after Garcia rejected a cut in his base salary from $9 million to $5 million over the weekend. His cap number had gone beyond $12 million because of an escalator clause that transformed his base salary into the league's franchise number for quarterbacks. Garcia earned in excess of $20 million over the last two seasons -- more than any quarterback. You say you want a resolution -- try a trade Owens Terrell Owens has been given permission by the 49ers to seek a trade after the four-time Pro Bowl receiver forgot to become a free agent. General manager Terry Donahue also will try to trade Owens, who missed a deadline last month to void the final three seasons of his contract. He still is under contract to the 49ers, pending a grievance filed by his agent, David Joseph. "I think it's very improbable that he would be back," Donahue said March 2. "Both parties have agreed to pursue a trade very actively in the next 72 hours." Donahue dismissed a report that the 49ers would accept a draft pick at the end of the first round in exchange for allowing Owens to become an unrestricted free agent. Damn another rebuilding season, FA and the salary caps is a mof, but it just shows how some guys are in it all for the money there is very little team loyalty anymore. Gonna be a tough season for us niner fans.

Why release Streets ? I don't get it. Either they are pinning their hopes on scooping up a knockout WR in the draft (unlikely), or getting one through free agency (unlikely), so they will just let Lloyd play as the first WR and Wilson as 2nd ?
Or maybe they think with Barlow as the sole starting HB they will make a transition to a smash-mouth style of play ? ![]()

I do not believe they cut Tai, i think it was he was a restricted FA which means they have the chance to match any offiers he may field, TO and Garcia have been the big names so far I will have to look and see what is up with Tai for sure though................
I checked and it seems Tai is an UFA which means he is free to go as he pleases with whoever he feels has made the best offer according to ESPN.com http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?positionId=1

I heard that the Ravens were offering a third-rounder for TO, and that the Niners may not get more then a second-rounder for him due to teams knowing they want him gone.

It is going to be rough, and i think they will get the shaft when trying to get rid of him personally I wouldnt take anything less than a high 2nd rounder (like first couple picks if not even a low first rounder) but that is just me.

I think that Garcia is the best scrambling QB in the league. He runs when he has to, but he can still make the throws that from the pocket. Some team is going to get a nice little upgrade at QB, and I think it will be the Cardinals. Denny Green had a similar QB in Cunningham in Minnesota, and if they sign Garcia, they can still groom McNown for the future if it's not just a line of BS, and they can use their draft pick on some other need.
