Wow. Sorta makes the game just that much cooler, doesn't it?
|
Indeed, my AP Physics teacher and myself are huge hockey fans (He's a Pens fan and I'm a Stars fan) and we've had discussions about this since I was in his Physics I class last year. It's pretty awesome stuff.

6,000 calories? I cry bullshit. There is no way that any person is expending 6,000 calories in an hour, particularly considering that hockey has breaks and pauses in the game. I don't think any activity burns 6,000 calories an hour, certainly nothing that can be sustained for more than a minute or two.

Maybe he means all the players combined? <shrug>
In any case, it's a good read. Hockey's an extremely tough sport. Anybody that says otherwise has no idea what they're talking about. |

I know they lose a LOT of calories, 6000 does seem a bit high though. They only really play about 30 minutes of a game max anyways, so that means they lose 200 calories a minute. I've heard about the weight loss too, that's why they load up on the pastas and other high carb stuff, to make up for it.

I think the goalie's work skews that stat by a lot, because they're playing all game long and they are the hardest workers on the team. I think the guy did mean overall between the entire team, although the weight loss is indeed true, I've experienced it, I used to play goalie.
