What is it gonna' take for Dallas to win?
 

I've been a Dallas Cowboy fan from the very beginning. There have been many bad years to go with the good ones. When Clint sold the Boyz to Jones it brought about many changes - some good but way too many that were bad. Jones, in hiring Parcells seemed to at least be on the right track to try and get some of the glory of the old days back. Bill Parcellls ain't Tom Landry but in many ways seems to be a return to the Landry way of doing things. The Cowboys perhaps hurt themselves this year by improving too much over last year - at least so far as draft choices go. Dallas is seriously lacking at offense and most notably short in the real skill positions. The Boyz' have got to get a quarterback who can function and a running back that can run!

They have very little or no ground game, and Quincy's form is very erratic, and he always seems to play like crap in the big games. He also has no vision, when he scrambles he makes a mess of things.

Also better WRs couldn't hurt them.

We have to be patient and let Parcells work his magic. The Tuna will get the players we need. And the Boys will be America's team again.

my dad loves the cowboy's he definitely thinks a better QB is in order. Me i love the Chargers but that's enough about that train wreck

Move hambrick to FB, Bring in a RB with some skill.
Would like to see what Quincy can do with a solid running game to take some of the pressure off of him. No QB in the league can play well on a consistant basis when week in and week out u generate no fear in the ground game.

A cover corner to play opposite of newman would be very benifical, as Mario Edwards spent much of the later half of the season puttin butter on his toasted ass.

Need to get a DE that can generate enuff pressure that he either
A) gets to the QB, or
B) creates enuff havoc that others can.

Looks like your cowboys may be getting Corey Dillon.... Dunno if that would turn out to be a good thing or not at this point.

I think everyone was suprised at what Parcells got out of Carter early on. Parcells is no doubt a hall of fame coach, and whatever he did to get them to the playoffs this year deserved coach of the year. But I don't think even the die hard Cowboy fans thought that this was a Super Bowl year - a wild car win maybe, but that's it.

Although as a true Eagle's fan, I detest the Cowboys and their fans to my innermost being (sorry LD), I respect the job Parcells did this year, and if they can get a decent quarterback, I am going to start worrying.

I think the 3 biggest needs in Dallas are
1) Running Back
2) PUNTER
3) a DE who can get to the QB

Carter was better early in the season when teams thought they could actually run the ball.

The punting in Dallas was AWFUL this year and constantly gave the other team a short field.

The Dallas D was #1 , but caused very few turnovers and scored very little. A pass rush that doesnt rely on blitzing will cause more mistakes by the offense and more TO's.

My thoughts:
I was in London for the first Cowboys playoff game in many years. I tried like crazy to find some way to watch it, but it started at 1:00am there, and all the American sports bars there shut down at 11. Oh well, I thought, I remember being on a bus and missing the 1st playoff game of the Jimmy Johnson era, when with Bill Bates's help they unexpectedly beat the Bears to start a great run. Boy, was I wrong.

A good pass rusher will be alot harder to come by than a good running back, I think. I don't know how great a blocker Hambrick is, and doubt that moving him to fullback would be very beneficial. I don't think Mario Edwards is quite as bad as many do. There were several lousy pass interference calls against him throughout the year. The recievers they have are more than adequate, if they'd just catch the damn ball (I know, sounds stupid, but I mean it.) They don't use Joey Galloway or the tight ends enough, and Terry Glen, despite some world-class catches early in the season, is just not a possession reciever. With the exception of running back, I think they need to just draft the best player on their board available at the time, and not for position. Has anyone heard of someone else being sent down to the minors in football like Chad Hutchison going to Europe before and it working? I can't think of another instance. Was Curt Warner on a team before playing "in the minors" or did he start out there?

they are using their tight end a lot now. jason whitten has been registering lots of catches.

Carter has potential, and like a lot of the team, he needs 2-3 years to develop into something repsectable. Parcells says that as much as 25% of the roster could be changed, but that it's unlikely that they'll pick up a big ticket player (like Drew Beldsoe), even with a ton of salary cap room. But, if anyone can make changes that will result in a better football team, it's Parcells, right?

Carter will get better, they'll pick up a running back, tighten things up in other areas. I doubt that their defense will put up another #1 performance next year, but anything is possible, and the Cowboys are on the up-and-up right now.

I agree that they need a running back -- a here's a glimmer of hope -- Corey Dillion is a free agent. How great would that be?!?! ;)

Running back number 1. You have to cut Hambrick all together. There should not be a spot for him on the team. I thought Richie Anderson did a better job at running back than Hambrick did. Go out and get a veteran like Corey Dillon. QB is number 2, again, go out and get a veteran. Bledsoe should be around. I know it wouldn't happen, but how about this trade, Hutchinson and Galloway for Simms and Keyshawn. With your draft pick, either get another young shut down corner like Nathan Vasher or a bad ass on the defensive line. In the second round, can we please get some O-line?

It's going to take alot of cash to sign Dillon, I think Kurt Warner is a bigger, better bargain right now, as Dillon could go anywhere in the league and become a starter except a few select teams. Dallas IMO should go chasing Warner, you can win without a great RB (Just look at NE) but a good throwing QB can get you alot further especially with Dallas' fast receiving core.

I don't know about Corey Dillon, he doesn't seem like a Parcells type runningback because of his attitude. They definitely need a punter because all year the opponent had a very short field to work with. Several teams beat them with field goals. I think if you're Jerry Jones, you have to have a meeting with Quincy Carter and tell him that next year is going to be the year he either shapes up or ships out. I understand that the running game was anemic, but there were many instances where the team was gaining momentum on the ground and he stopped it with a horrible throw or interception. He's got very good throwing power and okay speed, but no awareness or accuracy.There's no doubt Hambrick will be under close watch this offseason, and even if they move him to fullback he won't get any slack because of the way Anderson performed at the position. Defensive End will be a definite key position that is looked at this offseason, and I think they might even want to start looking for a young, quality safety that Woodson can mentor for a couple of years. Age is catching up with him. I agree that Edwards has been exploited a lot this year, but he should keep his job. They might want to bring in another good nickelback. I think the receivers are good, but they can improve their catching. Now, the o-line is another story. IMHO, this was probably the most underperforming unit on the team. Larry Adams looked slow and confused, and the right side of the line was plagued by holds, false starts, and terrible blocking. Flozell Adams held his ground, but one man can't anchor the line these days. As far as playcalling schemes, I don't think the Cowboys used their weapons very efficiently, with the exception of Anderson. The conservative offense became very predictable after the first half of the season, and defenses were jumping all over it. Maurice Carthon might want to get more vertical with the offense, even when he doesn't do play action. If the Cowboys can address all these areas (and there is no reason to believe Parcells won't), there should be good expectations next year.

Just look at Jones, he's not about losing. He will have them back on top in no time. I am sure he'll do whatever it takes.
