UNofficial TFP NFL final regular season standings

I dont believe I have made any major (or even minor) errors in my addition, but dont take this as gospel until crfpilot confirms these results.

in any case, congrats to Spartak for having the best record. I wish I had gotten in on week one, as I might have taken this contest. I think I did pretty damned good for only playing 16 out of 17 weeks.

some thoughts on doing the playoffs:

if we merely continue on in the same fashion (adding to our present point totals) to determine the final champion, then anyone with a score lower than 149 has no chance to catch Spartak as there are only 11 playoff games counting the Super Bowl. Therefore, while everyone else would be welcome to play, I wouldnt expect crfpilot to bother counting the scores of anyone with less than 149.

OR we could use a playoff type format, pitting the top 16 regular season scorers against each other in an elimination tourney. since there are 4 rounds of playoff games, that would whittle the field down to just 2 players for the Super Bowl. however, since there are so few games to deal with, there will likely be lots of ties, so we would need a failry complex tie breaking system. I am going to work up a seeding bracket and post it later in this thread for those who are interested in this idea to comment on.

if anyone has any other ideas, feel free to throw them into the mix. however, whatever we decide on needs to be done in the next day or two so the players will have time to get their picks in before saturday.

if we opt for the tourney format, it should look something like this. (sorry I dont know enough html to make it look pretty. if one of you does, feel free to post it.)

the seeding:

1. SPARTAK 160
2. SION 158
3. BONESCPA 155
4. CRFPILOT 155
5. PRESENT_FUTURE 154
6. STEELERZ 152
7. BUNDY 150
8. CREWSOR 149
9. CHEEZHEAD 147
10. MINX 147
11. ROGUE49 142
12. AL9045 136
13. GRUMPYOLDDUDE 135
14. GOV135 133
15. DJTESTUDO 132
16. ABSORBENTISHE 132

using the standard #1 vs #16, #2 vs #15 bracketing, we end up with these matchups
for the WildCard round of the playoffs. The winner of the Spartak/Absorb contest would
take on the winner of the Bonescpa Gov135 duel, and so on, until we had one player from
the "NFC" bracket taking on one from the "AFC" bracket.

NFC bracket:

Spartak vs Absorbetishe

Bonescpa vs Gov135

Present_Future vs Al9045

Bundy vs Minx

AFC bracket:

Crewsor vs Cheezhead

Steelerz vs Rogue49

Crfpilot vs Grumpyolddude

Sion vs Djtestudo

Great idea Sion, I like the tourney format, especially since I fall into the playoff seeds. . I vote for that.

As for the tiebreaker, maybe the combined score of ALL the playoff games that weekend. With the winner the closest without going over, and if both go over, its the closest.

Secondary tiebreaker could be highest scoring team that weekeend.

Tertiary tiebreaker, maybe the team with the most rushing yards that weekend.

4th () tiebreaker could be the team with the most passing yards that weekend.

5th TB, maybe the defense that will get the most INTs that weekend.

I think 5 should be enough, otherwise we may look into strength of schedule

I like the thought of the 1-16 breakdown. However, any tiebraker that allows the second person to see the first person's choices, throws everything out of whack. In theory, the second person could pick everything exactly the same on who wins, and then essentially go with the over/under on the total points.....

If my opponent goes with 100, then I can either choose 1 or 101 and essentially play the odds that my opponent is way over or way under.

I like the tiebraker options, but I think we need a "supervisor" who would get a PM with the picks and tiebrakers, who would post them when everyone has them in, and then lock the thread. Or,.....[makes something simple into a big hassle]

I'll go with what ever the majority says.

I'd say the ref should be one of those who have taken the time on the threads and reports.

So...CRFPILOT, Spectre or Sion
of course, Halx who started it all would be one too.

I like the tournament idea alot, and also agree with the tiebreakers mentioned above and the PM a referree way to enter picks. I think we should do it. I think the referree should be either Spectre or Halx (since Sion and I are in the top 16) if they're not too busy. I could still keep score and Sion could set up the brackets.

I agree that the ref should not be anyone in the tourney. so, if we can get someone to volunteer for that job, we'll be all set.

using crfpilots updated standings (which are undoubtedly more correct than mine) the seedings are:

1 SPARTAK 11 9 12 9 10 8 11 8 6 12 12 8 10 13 10 11 >>>>>>> 160

as I mentioned before, I dont know enough about html (and the limit of its functionality within a message board) to create a pretty bracket set up. so if anyone knows how this is done, you can PM me with the code and a brief explanation on how to input/change the names.

Yeah, I did some more thinking about the TBs.

As BonesCPA combined score of all the games could be rigged.

So then, the first TB would be the highest scoring team, but here's what I think should happen:

If the highest scoring team isn't any of the ones that the participants in the bracket picked, then we look at the teams they have picked and see who scored highest.

For example (using fictional playoff teams): Player A picks San Fransico, Player B picks Oakland, the highest scoring team is Minnesota, but Oakland scores 42 points compared with SF's 31.

In that case Player B would win on the tiebreaker.

But if both Oakland and SF get 31, only then do we move onto the rushing yards tiebreaker, using the same method as above.

What do you think ?

Also PM'ing the picks to a neutral Referee/Administrator is a good idea.

PS go the Titty Board conference

Any word on the Commissioner of the Titty Board Conference? And since we are naming the tournament, maybe we could name teams.......

Thanks crfpilot, sion, spectre, Halx, [anyone else not listed] for all their work.

Let us set a 12/31 midnight deadline to make a decision. My vote is first for the original tiebrakers mentioned by Spartak being emailed to Spectre (assuming he is willing). If not, then we go with the modified Spartak tiebrakers-

But done in a thread, taking everyone's assumed "honesty" in their picks. Heck, we aren't playing for money, just bragging rights (or potentially a set of fuzzy dice....)

I just looked closer at the brackets. I think the lineup is off a tad. The first round is right, but after that it falls apart. In theory, if the 1,2,3 and 4 seeds all win, they shouldn't meet up until the third week. In this seeding, 1 could play 3 and 2 could play 4 in the second week. Seedings should allow the higher seeds a longer time before they meet.

Week 2 should be:
TBC
1-16 winner versus 8-9 winner
4-13 winner versus 5-12 winner
TFC
2-15 winner versus 7-10 winner
3-14 winner versus 6-11 winner

I agree with BonesCPA that I didnt have the bracketing exactly right. I have made changes to it that I think more accurately reflects common bracketing practices, though not exactly as BonesCPA suggested.

I think BonesCPA is correct... #4 belongs in the same brackket as #1, #3 and #2 should be bracketed together.

feeling tingly

I think it's a brilliant idea....and if any of the top 16 doesn't want to participate, I'm sure someone a little further down the list----with about 120 points--would proudly jump in and fill a spot!!!!

Unfortunately, I haven't heard back from Spectre yet.
Personally, I would except either Sion or crfpilort as the ref.

Since everything would be posted publically,
everyone can see for themselves how things go.

I would be willing to act as the Tilted League Commissioner, if no one else wants it. I just don't have the ability to lock a thread. I would assume that Rogue49 would have that ability...

Let me know.

I thought they omitted week one from everyone because so few knew about it. 16 should be the max, so I think you're on equal footing.
Now minx on the other hand did miss a week and still finished near the top. I believe she would have taken it.

Now that I look closer there are a few in the top ranks who missed a week or more. I guess any of them could have bumped to the top.

It's amazing that I'm in the playoffs, as bad as my picks sucked on some weeks. That week I missed almost cost me a shot.

I've got my picks ready, but are we set on tie breakers? Since it's head-to-head, choosing one highest scoring team doesn't leave us with a high probability of resolving the tie.

If each player picked one game and predicted the total points of that game, chances of going to a second tie-breaker are slim. We could pick a second game, third and fourth as additional TB's.

If it goes beyond that, heaven help us! Predicting rushing yardage does not appeal to me.

Oh, well, who gets the picks?

I just heard from Rogue, and since no one else volunteered, he was willing to appoint me commissioner/thread starter. Since we have issues with tiebrakers, I think a common consensus is with the Spartak suggested tiebrakers:

As for the tiebreaker, maybe the combined score of ALL the playoff games that weekend. With the winner the closest without going over, and if both go over, its the closest.

Secondary tiebreaker could be highest scoring team that weekeend....
As Commissioner, I will make the executive decision on the tiebrakers.

First Tiebraker: Total points of all games played on the weekend. Weeks one and two have four games (eight teams) being played. All points of all teams playing is the first number.

Second Tiebraker: Highest scoring team of the weekend. Again, you have eight teams to choose from in weeks one and two.

Third Tiebraker: Lowest scoring team of the weekend.

Unless we run into problems, these will be the tiebrakers for the for two weekends. Teams will play head to head 1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, etc. in a single elimination bracket formula. (Clarification on opponents in week two will follow.)

If you do not make your picks in time, you will be automatically eliminated. The thread will lock the morning of the first playoff game. (Keep in mind, morning starts at 12:01 am - don't complain if Rogue locks the thread "too early" for you.)

Any questions? Good. Let's start picking.
