looks pretty good up there on top of the pile. Belfour is playing well but no matter how well a goalie is playing he still can't put the puck in the net, so thier defence must be doing something right because Belfour is looking good and their forwards must be scoring because their winning so therefore the whole team must be helping out not just Belfour. !!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!

Yeah I agree that win loss does look better for sure. The leafs are playing pretty damn good for a change but still, I have to hate them because my friend is a die hard leaf fan trie to rub it in my face whenever he can. I guess he's been waiting to do this for quite some time.

As for the Rangers, in order for them to get any better they have to get rid of Messier. I'm sorry but this dude is past his prime, has connections in upper management that allows him to remain a figure in the room which intimidates players. He is one of the greatest players to ever play but he is not one of the best players in the league today. Besides, when you're the only active NHLer to be playing in the heritage classic, that should be a sign for retirement. Messier needs to find a gem in that room to develop before he retires. Like what he did for Naslund when Mess was in Vancouver. Look at Nazzy now! Starring in Nike ads and whatnot

Oh yeah, Vancouver rules! hahaha

The leafs are to old, simply put.
Stanly Cup will probably be either Van, Col, Det, or St. Loius.
Most underrated team this year: Flames.
They will make the playoffs this year, but will probably bow out in the second round.
But the leafs do suck, and how many vancouver fans where fans of the team back in the 80's when they were constantly horrid?
(suprisingly I do pitty edmonton this year, nothing seems to be going right for them. must be karma acting against mctavish for pulling harvey's tounge last year)

leafs keep losing regulars and they keep winning, nolan out for 2+ weeks, mogilny still a month away, kaberle just got injured, belaks out, reichels still weeks away....

i kind of wonder how they will do once everyone gets back healthy....reminds me of the '01 playoffs, they got through 2 grueling playoff series with 1/3 of the team injured, then everyone came back healthy against carolina and the team seemed to lose its chemestry and fell apart to an extent.

meanwhile Sundin is the Hart trophy favorite so far. 14 multipoint games, something like 35 3rd period points(most in league by far), and pulling his team together early in the season and leading them to a 15 game point streak.

gonna be a good battle between leafs and senators for the NE div title thats for sure!

Soccerchamp76, my hatred of St. Louis is complete. The one time I actually want them to score a goal, they get shut out by Carolina, of all teams. While this continues to boad well for Detroit, my fantasy league team could have done without it.

I hope so..but if the Canucks don't start playing with some intensity..they are not going past the first couple of rounds. The team is good enough to be really good...but too inconsistent to prove it.

And as much as I hate (and I mean HATE!! ) the leafs are looking pretty darn good this year.

The Sens just got a tie against the Islanders, shaving another point off of Toronto's lead, it's down to 3 now. When looking at the standings in the paper this morning, I noticed Montreal's only 2 points behind us, and Boston's only 1 point behind them. (But Boston won tonight and Mtl. didn't play).
This makes Saturday's Sens/Bruins game really interesting, and it'll be even more interesting if Philly beats Toronto on Friday, although I doubt that'll happen, the way the Flyers have been playing.

I highly doubt you should be including Montreal in that uneducated statement. Ribiero, Ryder, Souray, etc, and most of that team are hardly considered "old."

pssssst show me wher i mentioned Montreal read a little closer and you'll be fine no problems. and as for uneducated i am 26 years old and have been playing hockey for 22 years. i've played in the United Hockey League in the States, the OHL, the QMJHL, the CJHL, and the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League oh yeah and the Eastern Ont. Jr. B Hockey League.

as for my statement being uneducated if i did actually mention Montreal in my original post which i did not draw your own conclusions if i am qualified to talk about hockey. i'd love to hear where you have played the game Kaos leagues teams would be great.

I'm going to the Leaf v. Philly game tommorow (saturday) after winning tickets from a raffle way back in November. Kind of lucky to have won the tickets to the second game in a back to back rivalry match between two of the top rated teams in the east this year. Pretty good seats too.

Glad to see the St. Louis fans have calmed down.

They had what 6 games in hand Detroit had a 3 point advantage. Now it is like a 3 game advantage and Detroit has a 7 point lead. Plus St. Louis have another game tonight with Detroit off. They had better win...

So Detroit gets hot and the Blues cool off at the same time.....the gap widens.

The Blues will overtake the Wings once the Wings cool down and the Blues get their shit together.

How many years in a row are you guys going to use the age argument against the Wings? They have shown it before, and they are showing it again: Age doesn't matter, as long as the vets that you do have are bad ass. Yzerman is having one of his best seasons in years, Draper is twice as amazing as usual, Lidstrom and Chelios rock, Schneider is comfortable with the team and racking up the points, Shanny is right on track, Woolley is proving that Buffalo Gm is an idiot, and so on. And the scouting Detroit has is top notch, so every year more and more awesome young players come to the team. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Fischer, Hudler, Kronwall, hopefully Grigorenko next season, the list goes on and on. They had 10 guys out at one point, all good players, and still moved up the standings with basically an AHL team. And just wait till Hatcher returns, damn thats gonna hurt

I think what we need [The Canucks that is] is a player for the Sedin line, and more production from Todd Bertuzzi. These, I think are the two biggest issues that the Canucks are dealing with. If they were solved, the intensity would come naturally. I'm optimistic about the Sedin line getting someone, seeing as [I'm hoping Burke has a reason for this] we just sent Slegr off to the Bruins for 'Future considerations' - what I'm hoping is freeing up roster space, and dumping (some) salary for a scorer like Carter or, less likely, O'neill. Just my two cents.

Bertuzzi just needs to get in front of the net, and get some pucks in to get his confidence back. Sure, the refs may hate him and are picking on him this year, but I still think he has the ability to play as good as he was last year.

I'm kinda dissapointed with the loss of slegr cause I have always thoguht that he has been a great player when he puts his effort in (Which is his downfall as well...). But it is good to hear that Hedberg has been called back and should be making the odd starts again, this is a goalie with some real talent.
I msut say the sedins have actually picked it up a little bit this year, even thoguh i've never been a big supporter of them. I remember back to the days of the drinking game when you have a drink every time they fall down =P

Detroit fans have a similar game. 1 shot everytime Devereaux falls down in the first, 2 shots everytime he falls in the second, 3 shots everytime in the third, and of course 4 shots in overtime. And if he is ever traded or retires, you drink the entire bottle in celebration . Even have a special 4 shot Red Wings glass for that very occasion. Guaranteed to make your liver hate you after only one game.

Is it true that the Sedins fall over because there gigantic alien skulls keep throwing off their balance? Its like somebody cloned Timmy from Southpark, and through them on a hockey team.

And I'm sure Boston is thanking you Canucks right now for Slegr, who got a goal in his first game as a Bruin.

Most likely to make roster space for the goon, Brookbank - Bad move, it seems. I'm hoping Burke will impress us in the near future, since Vancouver now has no trading power, and no defense depth [We would have to trade the likes of Sopel and some other players to get ourselves a solid 2nd line winger, and now we can't].

I like Burke for the fact that he rebuilt the Vancouver Canucks from top to bottom but I have to say that trading Slegr was a mistake instead of a bum like Sopel. If his main concern was keeping a right handed shot on the PP, why not trade for another right hander instead of a draft pick?

I like Brookbank. Makes other teams know that they have to fight a real fighter against the Canucks rather than Brad May.

As for getting a solid 2nd line winger, I think the Canucks could depending on what they're ready to give up. But it looks like the Canucks won't be making any huge deals come the trade deadline.

And as for the future of Burke and Cloutier, something tells me that if they don't get far in the playoffs this year, Cloutier will be run out of town and McCaw won't resign Burke. You'd think that Burke would already have a new contract but he doesn't. I think something's up between him and McCaw.
