Anyone else here try out for ESPN Dream Job?

Well, in case you haven't seen or heard the ads all over the place, ESPN is doind a nationwide search for the next SportsCenter anchor. They will broadcast a show in February called "Dream Job" with 10 contestants competing in Sportscenter-like "tasks" and a combination of judges and America will vote. Think "American Idol" meets "Real World" (because I think they're all living in the same house).

Anyway, in September, I went to the New York tryouts. 1,000 people ended up coming that day. I was relatively early, my form # was 103, I think. I had to take a tough written test, then partcipate in a group discussion on various topics, then they told me I made first cut! I met Jeremy Schapp and Stu Scott, and filled out a 7-page application. The next day I went back, as instructed, and had to read in front of a camera an exact script that had been used on a SportsCenter from that week. I guess this is what did me in, though, because I got a "we'll call you" from them shortly thereafter.

All in all, it was a lot of fun and a great experience.

Anyone else give it a shot? How did yours go?

I told people then my goal was just to get to the final 10, because then the offers would come in for other jobs outside of ESPN. Just look at Clay Aiken; he didn't even win, and he's as big if not bigger than the winner (what was his name again? Well, I had to settle for being in the top 10% of New York. Hey, better than nothing.

A friend of mine went to the try outs in Buffalo but didn't get a call back or anything

Sounds pretty sweet though!

None of the sites were close, well within 20 minutes, so I passed. Detroit was the closest, but not when I could make it. Too bad you didn't get any further.

That would be a great job but I would be a hypocrite If I said I wanted to work with Stuart Scott and Scott Van Pelt.
