mark cuban?
i know this is kind of out of nowhere, because oddly enough he has not been in the news this season yet, but i was just watching tv, and on fox sports there was the beyond the glory of mark cuban.
what do you guys think of him. personnally i think he is great. he has done wonders for the dallas mavericks, and he also gives a ton of money to charity. sure he has goofed up a couple of times, but i think it is just his passion for the game. it is obvious that he loves the mavericks, dallas, and basketball very much. i would have no problem with him coming over here to la to own the lakers. what do you guys think of him. |

yeah, i watched that beyond the glory episode and he led a great life!
everything the guy touched became a success and he hasnt done anything bad while he was doing this. the guy is a true american success story. and oh yeah, everytime the league fines him, he matches the fine to the world trade center fund.

Saw this as well, and I must agree here...The guy has an awesome approach to business and his life in general, and I love the fact that he gives his players only the best accomodations both in house and on the road...I mean what free agent wouldn't want to come to Dallas to enjoy all of those amenities?!
Besides that throughout the last few years all I ever heard about was his fines, huge ones at that. However until I watched that Beyond The Glory I never knew he matched dime for dime to donate to charity. Speaks volumes for the guy....I think his hands-on approach and intensity for his team can only do good things for the NBA as a whole. Did you guys see that part where he was "Macho Mark" in some movie? Ohhh man, that had me laughing hysterically!!

I like almost everything he does! It's good to see someone with money run a a professional team like a business and treat his players as an investment in the future rather than pawns like many owners do!.

Let us compare him to another owner; Dan Snyder of the Redskins.
Both are about the same age (early 40s) Both aquired their money through telecommunications and Internet stuff. They bought their teams around the same time. Both have had a "hands-on" approach to running their teams. Now the differences: Cuban is like a 13 year old that has won the lottery and bought his favorite team. He runs it like a fan, and acts like a fan, and because of this knows what will work while being able to make the money to keep the team. Snyder is like an accountant who somehow made enough to risk buying a team. He wants a return on his investment as soon as possible, and when something doesn't work, he cuts his losses and goes in a different direction. Interesting comparison IMO.

I love Mark Cuban. The 13 year old is a great analogy, it's too bad more owners don't run their teams like he does. Apparently he will sit up till four in the morning answering emails from fans, just because. It's too bad more don't follow his lead.

He is passionate and wants to win. I get the impression he's not overly concerned about numbers but would rather field a team that is fun, exciting, and able to compete with the NBA elite.
