Ty Willingham : Cheap Bastard
A friend of mine just told me that Willingham called a fake punt when the irish were up by 50. To me, that's the cheapest thing a coach can do.
And the sad part is, willingham coached at stanford before comin to n.dame. extremely cheap on his part |
He just wanted it to fail so he could let Stanford have better field position ;)
|
Maybe the punter audibled.
|
… and Stanford couldn't stop that either.
Actually, I don't know if they stopped it or not, and since neither team is relevant at this point in the season, I don't think many are going to care. |
When was Notre Dame relevant? (to anyone other than NBC?)
|
Why is that cheap, maybe he wanted to work on it, when your up by that much why not work on werid things like that?

I kinda agree with The Dude on this one. Something about principals disagrees with me. Although I haven't seen the highlights and heard it only from here, I too found it repulsive.
You work on wierd things like that in practice, plain and simple. And speaking of this topic did anyone see that shit at the end of the game against the 49ers and the Ravens? Well on 4th and goal from the 2 yard line the Ravens run with Musa Smith for a TD. Folks this was with the score 37-6 with 1:15 remaining. Read that last sentence again. Take a knee. Maybe I'm just a softie and not a fan of twisting the knife once its in the victim... |
I hate them too and it was cheap--especially if you read his comments after the game!

Two, that game was Musa Smith's first game as part of the offense, and they wanted to give him some carries. If it was 4th and 2 from the 30 and he broke a TD run, would you have a problem with that? |

First off, watch the highlights. The run wasn't 'right up the middle". Musa bounced it to the outside and scampered in for the score. And hey, I'm all about resting Jamal and letting Musa get some carries, no doubt. But as far as your 4th and 2 from the 30 it bears no weight here. That's comparing apples and oranges my friend. That being said I never really viewed the taking a knee as a mercy thing and more offensive, but I do see your point here. I have honestly never thought of it that way, and now that I do, it might be just as desrepectful (if not more) to take a knee in that situation. Solid point! Perhaps the only compromise in my mind is to kick the field goal like you normally would.... |
The problem is, you can't really win in that situation. If you take a knee, you embarrass the other team that much more. If you kick a FG, you are still running up the score, basically. If you run a play, and score on it, you are running up the score.
Even if Smith ran outside, if the D couldn't stop him, they deserved to be scored on like any other point in the game. I don't want it to look like I'm condoning it, I'm just making that point. |
It could be to show that they do have an offense. Notre Dame's offense has been awful for the past two years. This last game might finally get the offense to start clicking... at least for next year
|
Sweet game....would have been better if both teams lost though
|
I am surprised OU did not take a knee against Texas when they played this year..:)
I have no problem with the Raven play but the ND thing was pathetic. Art |

The only mercy that should be shown in football is with basic running plays and bringing in the second- and third-string. If you can't stop those, then you deserve to have a hundred hung on you. |
First of all, any coach that coachs a Florida team is cheap and where is the criticism of when OK scored like 77 on A &M. Maybe it wasn't the right call but this is a business and the Irish need to finish somewhat strong for recruiting purposes after being the most dissapointing team in the country this year.

I was wondering why the pigs started flying over my house...

it was bound to happen one of these days ;)

Why do people even care about how much they lose by and take offense to people who play the game how it's suppose to be played? Not by kneeling for the last 5 minutes to bore the hell out of the crowd. They should just play as hard as they can for the whole time. They certainly get paid enough (free education for college) to do so.
