How about them Bengals?

Marvin Lewis Coach of the Year anyone?

Didn't think it was possible for them to be anywhere close to .500.

djtestudo 11-26-2003 04:28 PM

Why, they've had talent, just bad management and Corey Dillon to screw it up.

Now Corey isn't starting, Lewis controls the team, and they will finish second in their division.

You said it in your first line.

That's why I would think they would have no chance, but Marvin Lewis obviously knew he could do it.

Hrothgar 11-26-2003 10:43 PM

I hope Marvin Lewis can keep the franchise headed in the right direction for years to come. That way the label of most pathetic team in the NFL can be handed to Arizona, Detroit, or San Diego.

crewsor 11-27-2003 07:59 AM

He would probably get my vote at this point. Theres a ways to go yet in the season though. They have a tough stretch coming up with 3 of 4 on the road.
We'll see if they are for real after that perod. They have had a fairly soft schedule so far, but they are indeed the only team to have beaten K.C.
Its amazing what parity can do for a team as far as improvement from one year to the next. There are truly no dominant NFL teams in this era.

BigGov 11-27-2003 09:48 AM

Most pathetic team in the NFL for about the past 10 years has been Arizona hands down.

There is no question, without new ownership, and new management, they will never go anywhere.

The Lions have a very, very young team, and a great coach. Give them a few years. When they lost Barry they had basically nothing to fall back on, leading to their current suckiness.

San Diego is also extremely young. Granted, they're going about everything the wrong way with putting Flutie in now. Yes, with Flutie they have a much better chance of winning, but they take away all that experience from Brees who desparately needs it. They just need to make up their mind.

Oh, and Parcells wins coach of the year. Watching how bad Dallas was with essentially the same team just shows how much he deserves it.

AL9045 11-27-2003 11:11 AM

Arizona has some good players, you're right though, until they get new management they will never reach mediocrity.

dragon2fire 11-27-2003 05:55 PM

If my clots win the super bowl then dungy is coach of the year other wise i would give the nod to marvin lewis

AL9045 11-27-2003 08:24 PM

Um, why Dungy? He inherited a pretty good team, and if I'm not mistaken they made the playoffs a few times in the last few years. Marvin Lewis inherited a team with a tradition of losing and that had a lack of discipline.

i belive the running joke over the last few years has been there in no d in indy

and now that d ranks much higher in all catogories

you can thank dungy for that

its also why i said they must win the super bowl for him to be coach of the year

djtestudo 11-27-2003 09:51 PM

That's like saying if the Ravens win the Super Bowl Brian Billick will win Coach of the Year.

If comes down to who was the best coach, there really isn't anyone other then Parcells and Lewis who would deserve that honor this year.

The Bengals have had plenty of talent before, but the coaching and FO was awful, and Lewis has changed that already.

Parcells has made so much out of what is still basically the same team that was 5-11 the past two years.

I think that if one makes the playoffs and the other doesn't, the one who does will win it. If both do, or neither does, it's a toss-up.

well i never claimed not to be bias

and your right i can still dream cant i

Hrothgar 11-30-2003 06:28 PM

They are winning with poise. These guys are confident, hungry, and feeding off the motivational tactics of Marvin Lewis.

SysteMatiC 11-30-2003 06:36 PM

Yeah i would have to put lewis high on the list of top head coaches. I just love rudi johnson, and those wide recievers are pretty damn good. And can you believe jon kitna is actually winning games for them.

SAM821 11-30-2003 06:39 PM

very impressive....

Its about time.... 13 seasons without a playoff appearance is quite long

AL9045 11-30-2003 06:41 PM

And all this talk going into the season was about Carson Palmer, haven't heard anyone talk about him in awhile.

djtestudo 11-30-2003 07:57 PM

It's a real shame that their playoff dreams will end a week from now on the field of battle in downtown Baltimore, as Anthony Wright continues to lead an offensive output unparalleled in Ravens history, and Ray Lewis will show Rudi Johnson why he was Corey Dillon's backup.

crewsor 12-01-2003 02:00 PM

I can't believe they are only 3 point dogs at Baltimore next week. They must have someone convinced they are for real.
Of course the Ravens only got 3 against the 49ers too, and look what happened.
I think the Steelers let the Bengals come back at the last minute just out of spite for the Ravens, but I do believe their bubble will be burst next week when Lewis, Lewis & company send them home humbled and with their tails between their legs.

That would be affirmative. Matter of fact, for some reason I seem to have picked the Ravens every week so far.

goppers 12-01-2003 08:02 PM

I know im late here, but yeah, it's pretty impressive what lewis has done. I can still hope that little Bill has a shot at coach of the year, but i think people are getting used to the Pats winning with a bunch of back up players. I'm really not sure who will be coach of the year. there really are a number of possibilities.

streak_56 12-02-2003 12:20 PM

as it was said beofre its down to Parcells and Lewis. the only controvesy in the Bengals is are they going to keep Dillon now that Rudi Johnson has stepped up. The Carson Palmer issue was only brought up by people who have never watched a Bengals game. i have watched all of them. I look forward to this weeks game against the Ravens. That game will show if they deserve a playoff run. Other than that you have to be surprised that they beat the Chiefs and stuffed Holmes. Now the Bengal fans are coming out of hiding.

Someone should make a poll about coach of the year.

djtestudo 12-02-2003 04:58 PM

Keep Dillion?

He'd have been out of there about 4 years ago if he wasn't the ONLY offensive weapon on the team.

Now, he can spend some time with fellow Ohioen RB William Green while they await offers that never come.

ReggErving 12-02-2003 09:01 PM

I'd love to see them do well after being the doormats of NFL for so long.

crewsor 12-28-2003 01:26 PM

The Bengals didn't deserve to go to the playoffs. They looked pathetic against the Browns in what was essentially a playoff game for them.

I was hoping for them to win so tonights whupping of the Steelers by the Ravens would mean something.

ReggErving 12-28-2003 08:16 PM

Season over.

dickie 12-29-2003 12:55 AM

It was a good season for the Bungels but this has to be a wake up call for next year , they showed they can win now .

What a dissapointment not beating the shitty Browns ?

LETS GO COWBOYS !

lions20 12-31-2003 11:29 AM

I still do not think they are that good.

lions20 12-31-2003 11:29 AM

They play in a week division and they lost to most of the good teams they played.

Hrothgar 01-01-2004 06:39 PM

When Marvin Lewis shores up the defense (which he will do) they will get over the hump and sustain respectibility in the league(like the Chargers, Cardinals, and Lions are trying to do).
