Raiders/Bucs - NO REPEAT
I'm a huge Raiders fan and this season has been even more disappointing the their performance in last year's Super Bowl. However, I don't remember the last time two teams that played in the Super Bowl didn't even make the playoffs. I know the Bucs are still fighting for a spot, but what gives with this season?
|
I'm a big Raiders fan too, but I can't say this season is more disappointing than the SB. I mean they were pathetic. How about coming up with new plays to go against your old coach?
They've been in most of the games but they just can't get the last bit done to win it. Pretty much typical Raiders. Haven't really watched the Bucs at all but can't say I'm disappointed that Chucky is failing. I never liked his attitude even when he was with the Raiders. |
I must agree with the Raiders not being able to finish. I do like all the "experienced" players, but I think the age thing has caught up with them. Gannons out, Romanoski is hurt/suspended/retired (who knows) so I think we will see a changing of the guard soon.

Raiders fan here too.
Well...it looks like all the vets gave it their all last year, and don't have much left for this year. It's too bad it was wasted against a coach that knew their playbook by heart. Doesn't matter...I will always be a fan of theirs...they are too cool. |
The Raiders are the Notre Dame of the NFL, it doesn't matter how they do each year, everyone still respects them for their past and the potential they have to beat anyone on any given weekend.
|
Sucks to be the 35+ vets though.
When do you retire ? After a superbowl loss or after a losing season ? Next season I expect to see what almost always happens one year into any Madden game: Rice, Brown, Gannon and Romanowski all retire. |
You mean there are people in Raider Nation who can use a computer? ;)
JUST KIDDING... Seriously, I thought they'd be doing MUCH better then this, especially considering the money they save on those early-bird specials could have been used to upgrade the team :D Ok, I'll shut up now... |
I expect there will certainly be a changing of the guard soon. How much can you expect from their core group of veterans.
I also expect a major change in the head coach slot. Either a distinctly different attitude or perhaps a personnel change. Aside from the Woodson incident, I get the impression there is a lot of strife in the locker room, which ultimately is the head coach's problem to resolve. Al Davis is getting on in years, and he was never that stable to begin with. With dementia looming I expect he'll want to see a Superbowl win sometime in the near future. I'll always be a Raiders fan, but this season isn't just lackluster it's aggravating at times  |
There's no doubt that Al Davis will shake a lot of things up in Raiderland.
|
I agree that Al Davis will do something. Callahan was a little upset after this weekends lose and gave to his team in the media during the post game press conference. This off season will definitely be interesting to say the least.
|
I'd say Callahan is gone after the season. He just doesn't have his players' respect anymore I think. You don't call professional athlethes the dumbest people in America. There are ways to challenge a man's ego to where he works to do better. That was not it.
|
"We've got to be the dumbest team in America in terms of playing the game."
I agree Callahan is gone, he said the obvious, the Raiders lost the game on Sunday, Denver did not beat them. From what I heard he was targeting three specific plays, Santiago jumping offsides to block a punt giving a first down, Eric Bartons play (which Barton admitted was stupid) and Woodsons play (which was a borderline call) But in general I think this is frustration, with lack of execution, lack of discipline, which is the coaches fault. How many games did they have with most of their starters where they refused to run the ball, resulting in Gannons (already) shaken confidence to get worse, absolute refusal to simplify the offense to get momentum in the season and games. Are the players doing stupid things at the most inopportune time during most of the season, yes, who do I blame? Looks like Callahan to me |
Not only are the two Superbowl teams not going to be there, but almost all of the playoff teams will be different in both conferences.
The Bucs, Falcons, Giants and 49ers will not be there, and the Packers might not be either. That just leaves the Eagles to return from the NFC. The Raiders, Steelers, Jets, and Browns won't be there. The Titans are on the bubble. That leaves just the Colts to return in the AFC. That's why it is such a great league. |
Raiders suck, i think the bengals could 50 point them
