Where will Schilling land?
 

If im not mistaken he said he was pretty sure he wouldn't be in Arizona next season, and right now it looks like it will be one of three teams: the Phils, the Yanks or the Sox.

so, who is it going to be. It looks like boston is making the push right now, but can they really afford him? What would signing him do to their free agents mess next year (pedro, lowe, vtek, nomar, trot)?

it looks like it's going to take at least two years, maybe more to get schilling, who is going to offer it.

personally i want to see either the phils or the sox get him, then i hope george blows his lid. that's always fun.

well all he needs to do is agree to an extension and he is with the Sox...although. I wold never count the Yankees out of anything...and if they don't get him and the sox do, I expect The Boss to go out re-sign pettite, sign colon and Vlad and maybe even snag Javier Vasquez...:-(

I doubt the Yankees want anything to do with the D-backs now after Colangelo publically stated he wanted Soriano and Johnson for Schilling.

Seems likely to me theres a three-way deal with Milwaukee where they get some prospects form the D-backs (along with some from the Sox, maybe) for Richie Sexon.

From what I've heard, he will end up anywhere HE wants. The no trade clause will assure him of that.

It is interesting how Epstein is dictating the moves this offseason rather than Steinbrenner and Cashman. I think Schilling will end up in Beantown, Vlad in Baltimore, Pettite somewhere in the Texas borders, and Sheffield in the Bronx. These all seem likely destinations for these folks.

What WILL be interesting is what the BoSox do with Nomar and Manny. I would hate to see Nomar leave, but other great Red Sox have left and the city has moved on and forgiven the Sox; remember Fisk, Clemens, Boggs, Lynn, etc, etc. I just don't see how the Sox will be able to retain Nixon, Varitek, Lowe, Pedro, Ortiz, and Mueller after next season. I read somewhere that the Sox also have to deal with arbitration with some of these folks soon; Ortiz was on the list, if I remember right.

When it comes down to it, though, pitching, defense, and speed win the World Series nowadays. Schilling and Foulke would be a great step in that direction; keeping Manny and Nomar would not. Luis Castillo would be a definite step in the right direction, too, both speed wise and defensively. Question is, would Steinbrenner let him go to Boston. The other question, too, is can the Sox find the money to bring him in and still keep under the luxury tax bullshit.

Granted Manny will be missed, but I don't see much of a loss in this projected lineup from last year, assuming the role players from last season step-up, again.

You gotta love what Epstein is doing for the Red Sox nation: a month after losing a heartbreaker to the Yankees and were already rabidly focused on next year; usually, I'm still depressed and taking swings at my 8 year old cousin who loves Jeter.

Schilling seems to be in bed with the Red Sox but I think he is waiting to see if the Yankees come callng.

I agree on everything of substance in your post. Two minor things i disagree on are that I don't really think the sox are in on Castillo, but I could be wrong. I also want to see Kim as the #5 starter. He just has too good of an arm even though he is a head case. I just feel they may be able to work with a 24 year old head case.

the only other thing that worries me with the possible nomar,manny/arod trade is giving up the 3 4 punch in the line-up. Maybe I'm worrying about it too much. and against righties trot basically is nomar, but it's still in my mind. Also if ortiz is what he was the second half of last season, then Arod would have pleanty of protection. oh shrug. No matter who the #5 starter is next year Boston should have the best rotation in baseball.
