MLS: Adu to DC UNITED !!!

If anyone here is a MLS fan or just a soccer fan in general will realize how HUGE THIS IS!

This 14 year old prodigy has been under pressure since the age of 11 to sign with many of the European powerhouses.

Story here

Adu is seriously amazing, he will be a true superstar in a couple of years imo, the kid simply oozes talent.

No doubt this will be a huge story for years to come concerning the MLS and the youth movement of American soccer players. I think its awesome what kind of example this has set...

Has anyone seen footage of this kid? I saw some home cam shots from when he was 12 competing at a practice with one of the major league teams. And he simply flowed. Unbelievable talent for his age. I'm excited about this to say the least!

He is 14! Holy Shit! when i was 14 all i was doing was masterbaiting. that's amazing. I'd pay to see him beat 30 year olds.

Is bobby convey still with DC? I saw him play a couple years ago and he was pretty good. Of course he wasn't as big a stud as Adu is suposed to be, but still. I'm glad to see someone stay here. I remember what a big deal it was when Landon Donovan signed to play here.

So when will Freddy be able to play? DC has already got some nice young players with Convey, Stokes, Warren, etc.

Adu "could" help American soccer. I say "could" because its up to the American fans and public in general. Soccer is not respected in the US and especially for those people that say they don't even know we have a soccer league...BS. Anyway, as a longtime player/coach/fan I'm excited about the possibility of what he can do for American soccer. My son is 11 and plays for a club team and I coach a U15 club team. I could not imagine in my wildest dreams my son (in 3 years) or any of my players being courted by European teams let alone signing with the MLS!!! Congrats to Adu!!!

i read about him a while ago, but i have never seen him play. but that is crazy, him signing with a team at 14. if i remember correctly, there is a little scepticism about his age. alot of sceptics think he is older since he is from africa. they dont have the best of birth records there and i understand what they are trying to say, but still even if he was older, even if he was 18 the guy can play soccer like no one else at his age. i say more power to him. soccer needs a new superstar.

Did anyone catch Adu on Cold Pizza this morning? I was in and out of consciousness trying to get up for work but from the tidbits I remeber he seemed quite the articulate fellow. I mean I had to tell myself that this guy was 14 years old. Certainly didn't act like it, certainly didn't look like it...however he was quite mature, humble, and seemed to have a good head on his shoulders...

Did he ever get added to the U-20 team, and if so, aren't the games fairly soon? I think I read a story awhile back about the possibility of games around Turkey day, but I'm not sure...

Yea, he was named to replace Alvarez. The World Youth Championships (or whatever they're called) start on T-giving day and last through the better part of December if I remember right.

I just read an article about this at work today
