Coaches vs. Cancer Classic
Our first taste of the action:
(21) Wake Forest def. Memphis 85-76 (23) Marquette def. St. John's 52-45 (18) St. Joseph def. (12) Gonzaga 73-66 (22) Pitt. def. 'Bama 71-62 Great Games, with the exception of St John's-Marquette. Marquette really seems to be hurting after losing Dwayne Wade. Pitt. won so I am happy. It looks like Carl Krauser, Brandin Knight's replacement wont be to bad, he had 21 points. Obviously the best game was St Joe's- 'Zaga with the underdog Hawks beating the favorite Bulldogs. On a side note I read in the box score for the st. johns- marquette game that there was only 6000 people in the garden? You'ld think it would be more considering MSG is St. Johns home arena.

The attendence thing suprised me. I watched those games, and it looked filled to me. With no interesting NBA matchups, I caught both the Pitt and the St. Joes games last nite.
St. Joes looked good from the inside out. They got it done when they needed to in the paint, and had some nice guards as well. This is a team to watch. Pitt needs someone to step up in the post for them. They obviously have all season to work it out, but guards shoot hot and cold and they at least need to make opponents think they are insterested in going to the paint. I was impressed with Pitt overall, though. |
