College Football Saturday - 11/15/03

Should be a nice little college football weekend. Make predictions/ talk about the games here.

Minnesota vs. Iowa (-5)
I like Iowa here - but Minnesota has been playing strong since their Michigan letdown. Minnesota's standout QB is a bit woosy, and Iowa has a nice run defense. Iowa by ten.

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin (-2)
I'll take Michigan State. Wisconsin has too many injuries, though QB Sorgi is expected to play.

Purdue vs. Ohio State (-3)
This is a really tough one. Purdue will not be able to run the ball, Ohio State will need to against a tough Purdue D. Kyle Orten has two proven wideouts that could give Ohio State some trouble. Give me Ohio State late.

Texas Tech vs. Texas (-16.5)
As the line indicates, Texas Tech is playing in the other Big 12. (The one without Texas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma). Texas Tech's record of 7-3 isn't as pretty as it seems, as they have mopped up some Big12 fodder. Texas by two touchdowns.

Pittsburgh (-1) vs. West Virginia
Again, the line gets this one right as this contest will be much closer than advertised. Pittsburgh's D is susceptible, and West Virginia gets their QB back. Give me West Virginia in the mild upset.

Other interesting match-ups:
LSU (-6.5) vs. Alabama
Cincinnati vs. TCU (-6.5)
Syracuse vs. Miami (Fl.) (-19)
Florida (-7) vs. South Carolina

iowa should be able to pull off their matchup. minnesota has been the cinderalla and their time is about to run out.

I reallly really want purdue to pull this off so that ohio state will slip in standings. on the other hand, i dont want purdue to jump in the standings either. conflict of interest . i really think purdue has what it takes here.

T-Tech vs Texas
Well, BJ symons doesnt look like he'll be playing with his injury.

so, it'll be their dead last in the nation defense, virtually non-existent running game and a backup qb. hehe. people are expecting both vince young and cedric benson to break the 1000 yard mark in this game . i'll be there cheerin on DA HORNS

alabama has been havin a shitty season ever since fran left 'em and maybe they can pull off an upset against LSU? this would be even sweeter cuz this will be +1 for us in the polls. LSU is too good of a team this year to lose to alabama though .

All I know is that Arizona State sucks. Man, what a disappointment for me. I had such high fucking hopes before the season, and it all went down the shitter. Texas wins, and I don't give a damn about the rest.

Ya'll forgot the biggest game of them all...NC State vs. FSU. If FSU wins they essentially clinch the ACC title, but if they lose Maryland can win out and be co-champions. Which would, of course, be the best thing to happen

If Purdue wins it helps Michigan more than Texas Dude. Michigan will be up more quality points and they will get a bonus. Really does not matter to me who wins except if OSU beats Purdue and Mich beats them next week...it makes Michigan outright Big Ten champs instead of co champs with Purdue.

Ohio State wins - they did a nice job. They dominated on special teams and defensively, forcing two turnovers. Ohio State protected the ball, and set up the big match-up with Michigan next week.

TCU is gonna' throw a major hiccup into the works before it's over - Ohio State's defense save their ass this afternoon! Back to TCU - I don't know how theyre gonna work around them if they remain undefeated which is a very real possibility. There are people in Ft Worth that are likely to take the BCS to court if they feel they didn't get a fair shake outa' this deal.

Texas pulls off CLOSE fucking one. way too fuckin close.

the story lies in the blocked extra points for tech. tech's kicker missed the fg that would've sent the game into OT and TEXAS WINS!

HOOK 'EM HORNS!

That Texas game was insane. Not a big follower of Texas and all, but I had to watch come the end of the 4th. Why was young out? I though he was the bright young star for texas? was he getting picked?

One more game before OSU gets a chance to defend their title. Not that it really matters. nobody beats OU this year!

yeah, tech somehow had vince's # down and its a known fact that mock > young in passing. 2 mts to go, so we were in pass-only form. so, i kinda support mack in that decision (may have saved his job hehe).

young had a bad game today.

I feel bad for TCU. I mean, they are a good team, the PLAYERS don't choose their schedule, they just play. That said, someone chooses their schedule, went light, and, well, when you don't beat anybody of any importance, you don't get the big payoff. I CAN think of a lot of teams that would be undefeated with TCU's schedule.

Problem with being an up and coming program like TCU, is that the schools you want to play out of schedule, start avoidin you. Few years ago TCU played Nebraska close in Lincoln. NU bought out the game the following year rather than go to Fort Worth. Francione and A&M want no part of TCU, neither does Texas. Too much risk, too little reward for the non confernce schedule. I do know that OU has scheduled them for 2004? 05? Not sure which one, but Stoops seems to fear no team.

Perhaps I simply do not understand how the BCS works but - I do not understand how everyone keeps penciling Texas into the picture. The way I understand this thing is that #1 plays #2 in the Sugar Bowl this year. The conference champion from the major conferences is guaranteed one of the remaining major bowl games. Texas is part of the Big 12 South which OU is outright champion of. OU is going to end up playing one of the teams from the Big 12 North - at this point probably the K-State pussycats. OU will beat K-State as badly as they have everyone else - Now! How does Texas weasel back into the mix - Looks like K-State is next big in the Big 8 + Texas. Am I missing something here?

Liquor Dealer, the way I understand it is this: If the conference champ plays in the National Championship, that opens up the slot that the conference champion would have taken. Of course, I could be wrong

Texas has a chance at receiving one of the "at large" bcs bids (there are 2 of them).

Any BCS conference team that is ranked #4 or better is also guarenteed a bcs spot. Ohio State is expected to lose to michigan next week, so that's expected to propell us +1 (btw, UT is #5 now).

If OU wins out and goes to the Sugar Bowl, Texas has a very good chance at getting the Fiesta Bowl spot left vacant for the Big 12 champ.
