I hope the O's do get Vlad.

gov135 11-10-2003 12:22 PM

Neat link. Thanks.

I know I'm probably in the minority, and the O's need help in the outfield, but what about making a run at Bartolo Colon and Kevin Millwood instead of one large contract for just Vlad?

Two things I noticed:
1. Every other player seems to be predicted to go to the Dodgers. This is slightly strange.
2. What!?! No big names projected to go play for my Indians? :D

The_Dude 11-10-2003 12:40 PM

petite predicted to go to houston? still doesnt make up for losin billy wagner.

AL9045 11-10-2003 12:51 PM

Hmm, I think Vlad would help bring some fans back though cause of his star power.

djtestudo 11-10-2003 08:16 PM

Fuck Colon and Milwood. One has Sid Fernandez's body and the other hasn't shown much except an overpriced contract. Plus the Orioles will have all kinds of pitching coming up in the next two years, so we can survive for now.

Guerrero is the real need. He improves the outfield defense and becomes our #4 hitter, which we haven't had since Albert Belle "retired".

I've also heard of us going after Randa to play third for a year, and maybe trading for Sexon or Derrick Lee if we lose out on Vlad.

The funny thing about the Orioles is that could re-sign Ponson and still reap the benefits of the young arms they got in return for him from the Giants. Baltimore dealt very well at the deadline with Ponson and Jeff Conine. I don't see them contending for the playoffs, but at least they could move up from 4th place.

The other thing I noticed about that list is that Atlanta isn't predicted to re-sign anyone. I understand that Maddux is a risk because of his age, but don't you think they'll make a run at either Javy Lopez or Gary Sheffield? Are they looking to cut payroll THAT much???

AL9045 11-11-2003 07:02 PM

Chances are they will get Ponson. He didn't perform too well in 'Cisco.

Thanks for the link. I find the sport of Baseball signings interesting to predict and watch.

I wonder how many of the free agents will be signed by the Yankees.

back101 11-11-2003 07:32 PM

Based on that list. It looks like the Cubs would pick up some good talent. Ivan Rodriguez and Ugueth Urbina

Great link.

Man, my Cardinals picking up Maddux, Batista, and Alomar? I don't see it. Unless they deal Tino and Edmonds they just can't take on that much salary without addressing the bullpen. It would be nice though.

I don't know if you'd want Alomar...he has lost it! Your team might be better off re-signing Vina...

Grondar 11-12-2003 10:19 AM

Nice list, except the predictions don't give the Phillies any love.

The Phillies management has openly stated that they are going to go out and get a #1 pitcher, and I am certainly excited to hear that.

I love the acquisition of Billy Wagner, and if they compliment him with a #1 pitcher, that would be superb.

I'd certainly prefer we resign Chris Carpenter cheap, grab Batista and then use the money saved to go for Castilla for our 2nd base job. We've still got to address the bullpen too, and Pujols needs to be locked up. I agree with the Alomar assessment, plus he's become a bit of a cancer in the clubhouse in the past.

Why do the Cardinals need a new second base? They've got Bo Hart, and last time I checked, he didn't do too bad last year.

goppers 11-16-2003 09:59 PM

hmmm boston could really use one solid pitcher. I don't really care which, but they need someone. other than that I don't much care what they do. Millwood to the sox i would be happy with. I don't know if i see it, but it sort of makes sense. he has the potential to be a 20w pitcher, but just had an off year. they should be able to get him for good "value", which is a word theo and company love to use.
