Associated Press CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami tight end Kellen Winslow apologized Sunday for ripping officials and comparing himself to a soldier after Tennessee's 10-6 win over the Hurricanes. Winslow lashed out at Southeastern Conference officials Saturday, saying they targeted him during the game. Winslow, the son of NFL Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow Sr., caught seven passes for 88 yards but had a costly 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct in the fourth quarter. He also nearly got flagged for standing over and taunting a shaken Corey Campbell after a hard-hitting block in the third quarter. "It's war," Winslow said Saturday, his voice raised in the locker room. "They're out there to kill you, so I'm out there to kill them. We don't care about anybody but this U. They're going after my legs. I'm going to come right back at them. I'm a ... soldier." In a statement released through the university Sunday, Winslow apologized for his comments. "After speaking with the press, I immediately regretted my comments and felt embarrassed for my family, my team, the University of Miami, our fans, alumni and myself," Winslow said. "What I have learned from this experience is to take my triumphs and failures in stride. My outburst should in no shape or form be a reflection on this institution or the Miami football program. "As for my reference to being a soldier in a war, I meant no disrespect to the men and women who have served, or are currently serving, in the armed forces. I cannot begin to imagine the magnitude of war or its consequences."

I think the press blew this out of proportion, obviously he had tons of adrenaline pumping through him and just came from a tough loss you're bound to say things you don't mean. I'm glad he apologized though, he really is one of the best college football players out there.

I think its cool of him to apologize. Perhaps media should be kept out of the locker room postgame after a game like this, especially for the defeated team. I definitely don't doubt his skill as a player, but I think character also counts as a large part of who a person is.

perhaps... but how many times do players do things and just leave it like that...dont apologize or anything....
really man, he was pissed from losing, and he had all those camera's in his face, and he's outspoken, of course he's not gonna say anything nice, he was wrong for saying some of the things he said, but maybe he was sorry? at least its something |

kellen winslow is one hell of an athlete...but a shitty ass human being. hes one of the most arrogant and classless players in the game.
you take your anger out on the field, where it belongs. not against the officials, or even your own teammates. i dont feel his apology is sincere at all and i wish nothing good for him in his future.

Kellen Winslow Jr. is a lucky individual in the sense that the book is still open on him. He can use this experience to grow, and not deviate from the standards he sets for himself. Or this will be the first in a long line of ugly incidents.
Talent will only take you so far... the mark you make as a human being often seperates the 'goods' from the 'greats.' Time will tell. |

tj2001cobra...you do realize almost all athletes when faced with controversy have a "canned" line of apology. If you watch sports enough it all sounds way to good.
It goes always like, "First and foremost I apologize to the great fans and the entire organization. I realize now what a fool I was and it just came the time to admit my mistakes...yayayayayayay. Blah. |

Yes, I do realize it. BUT, most athletes will at least come out and read the speech to the public.
Like I said before, this guy is a pile of crap who probably doesn't even know he apologized. That is my opinion. I'm open for people to try to get me to see otherwise but I can't guarantee I'll change it. |

He's 20 years old... immature, probably spoiled cause his daddy is a hall of famer, and it shows... I dont think he is a pile of crap, I just think he is still young and immature...
I would wait a few years when he is like 23-24 and see how he is acting then to say if he is an asshole or piece of shit... |
