Who's in & Who's out (For the BCS Bowls)

Va-Tech, Miami seems to be out.

fsu's future is in the hands of the pollsters.

Quote:

1. Oklahoma

2. USC

3. Florida State

4. Miami (FL)

5. Ohio State

6. Virginia Tech

7. LSU

8. Michigan

9. TCU

10. Georgia

11. Iowa

12. Texas

13. Tennessee

14. Purdue

15. Washington State
Out of that, Michigan and Ohio State will play each other.

TCU will play @ southern miss in a couple of weeks and that will be a tough test.

Tennessee really showed off today by beatin miami at home, but texas put on an even stronger show by BLOWING OUT ok-state @ home.

things were really messed up this week.

Artermis 11-08-2003 08:24 PM

OSU the same team that got blow out by OU, which is the same team that blew out Texas..:)

Anyways USC vs OU. USC will not lose to Arizona or UCLA. They are both not very good. UCLA could get up for the game but I do not see it happening.

I just wonder who is playing Michigan in the Rose Bowl...hopefully not TCU. TCU to me is not worthy of a BCS bid with their crap conference and horrible OOCS.

The reason the MAC teams were talked up is that teams like NUI at least played a harder OOCS.

Texas vs Michigan in the Rose Bowl....dude we can only hope..:)

if michigan gets past osu that is + there are all those conference championships that can determine things.

bond007 11-08-2003 08:37 PM

what should make The_Dude happy is that the Longhorns are now in really good shape to get a BCS bid.

how 'bout Michigan-Texas in the Rose Bowl?!?

Artermis 11-08-2003 09:39 PM

If michigan wins out they in the Rose Bowl.

Texas needs to hold up their part but since they not going to be in a Champ game should not be that hard.

Miami, FSU, VT all killed themselves for a shot at the BCS...Pitt has a tough road with WVU and UM in the next couple of weeks.

LSU has a tough road to hoe.

It is going to be wacky for the next two weeks.

no, i know what happened last year and it could very well happen to us again.

Rudel73 11-09-2003 07:12 AM

Miami could still make it into a BCS bowl, with VTech losing they still have a chance to be conference champs.

Also, i really hope Ohio State loses more games because they are by far the most overrated team in college football, they should not be that high!

Liquor Dealer 11-09-2003 08:06 AM

If Texas goes to the Rose Bowl it will not be well received by California - We went out there last year and kicked the shit out of Washington State and all you heard was how poor the attendance was because no one would pay to see someone other than Pac 10 and Big 10 teams play!

Artermis 11-09-2003 08:35 AM

Texas and Michigan both have large fan bases and will bring a lot of fans.

WSU is a horrible team...they have had more luck than OSU. 7 turnovers against UCLA and they win....shows how crappy the PAC10 is. They also had 7 turnovers against another team in the PAC10 that they won.

Exactly.

I'm not sure if Texas will get the chance to go or not. They DO travel well, which is more important than it should be. But do you pick Texas, which couldn't even win its half of the division, or do you reward a team that makes it to the championship game for their conference and loses?

It's an interesting season. Believe me, though, the picture will clear up alot more on its own. Just look at all the one-loss teams losing.

WarWagon 11-09-2003 11:16 AM

FSU and V Tech both with losses against crappy teams, my aren't things getting interesting now...

RoadRage 11-09-2003 12:30 PM

Sugar - Oklahoma vs Southern California
Orange - ACC/Big East (Florida State/Pittsburgh/Miami/North Carolina State) vs SEC runner-up
Rose - Big 10 winner (Michigan/Ohio State/Purdue) vs SEC Winner
Fiesta - Texas vs TCU/Big 10 #2/Washington State/????

Fiesta will have first pick of the at-large teams by losing Oklahoma to the Sugar Bowl. Given what SHOULD happen, they will pick Texas.

Rose has second due to losing Southern California. They've already had one bad experience with Washington State. They wanted Texas, but Texas went elsewhere. They consider a Big 10 rematch game, but will settle on the SEC Champion, even if it is LSU.

Third pick is the Orange Bowl's since it's been the longest since they hosted the title game. They wanted the SEC Champion, but they went to Pasadena. Their pick will depend largely on who the ACC/Big East representative is, but for these purposes I will assume it's Florida State. Highest probability is the SEC runner-up. They may be willing to stomach a rematch of Florida teams just to have tickets sold.

The last at-large pick is Fiesta's. This pick will be determined more on who's available. After the trouble last year with Washington State and the Rose Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl will be willing to select an undefeated TCU over Washington State. If Purdue beats Ohio State, they may be on the list instead. They may host Ohio State a second time.

Anyone have predictions as to where Tennessee will move in the BCS? We seem to be screwed by the latest change in rules for a tie-breaker in the SEC East for Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. If Auburn doesn't beat Georgia this coming week then we definitely wont be ahead of GA by 5 places. Anyone think that this rules just plain sucks? I think if they are going to use the BCS, then use the highest rank and not if they are within 5 places of each other to decide. Here is the link of the new rules:

Sure Michigan could play Texas in the Rose...cause Ohio St would be singing Carmen Ohio on burbon street!

RoadRage 11-09-2003 03:34 PM

CollegeBCS.com has Tennessee projected AHEAD of Georgia. They have Tennessee at #8 (19.32) and Georgia at #9 (20.37), with Florida back at #15 (31.50).

b1naryb0r1s 11-09-2003 05:00 PM

awesome, thanks for the link. Any idea how accurate that site is in its predictions?

The_Dude 11-09-2003 05:14 PM

not very. some of the computer polls havent come in yet.

b1naryb0r1s 11-09-2003 05:39 PM

Well, at least I am feeling elated at the moment from the news but that could soon change once the actual bcs is released tomorrow. It's going to be a rough next two weeks in the SEC.

Er, that would mean USC (or Wash. St.) would be back in the Rose Bowl, no? Unless you have OSU taking Oklahoma's spot (?).

phyzix525 11-10-2003 08:13 AM

Yeah well I didn't think that one out.

bond007 11-10-2003 10:47 AM

here's my prediction:

Sugar: OU-USC
Rose: Michigan-Washington St.
Fiesta: Ohio St.-Texas
Orange: Florida St.-Pittsburgh

fearofmear 11-10-2003 11:01 AM

bond007, you cannot have that scenario. The SEC champ is guaranteed a slot. Take out Washington St and move Texas to the Rose Bowl and put LSU or SEC East Champ in that slot and I would agree with you.

bond007 11-11-2003 03:12 PM

fearofmear is correct.

and, with TCU making the Top 6, it means that the Ohio St.-Michigan loser gets the BCS shaft. so, it'll probably look like this...

Sugar: OU-USC
Rose: Michigan/Ohio St.-Texas
Fiesta: TCU-SEC Champ
Orange: Florida St.-Pittsburgh

phyzix525 11-11-2003 03:57 PM

If Ohio st wins out they should have enough to take over the #2 spot without USC loosing. SOS is important.

bond007 11-15-2003 07:28 PM

well, Pitt is out. how 'bout a TCU-WVU Fiesta Bowl matchup!?!

RoadRage 11-16-2003 12:38 PM

With the November 15 results:

Florida State or Miami-FL (if they win the "Mountain" East) to the Orange Bowl, maybe even a rematch to get butts in the stands. The Orange Bowl is committed to taking either the ACC or Big East champ, but not necessarily both. If Pitt wins the Mountain East (which they can if they beat Miami and finish 6+ spots ahead of WVU), the game will be Florida State-Pittsburgh.

The Rose Bowl still says they want a Big 10-Pac 10 match, but they'll change their minds if they lose Southern California to the Sugar Bowl and take someone other than Washington State.

The Fiesta Bowl is still the most likely destination of TCU if they get a Big Bucks-No Whammies Bowl. A match of old Southwest Conference foes Texas and TCU has to be intriguing and can't help but be profitable, even if it is a blowout. Texas letting "one-dimensional" Texas Tech hang in the game until missing the last-second FG last night bodes well for TCU's prospects against Texas.

Sugar is Oklahoma vs Ohio State or Southern California EVEN IF OKLAHOMA LOSES IN THE BIG XII CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. Oklahoma losing in the Big XII title game hurts Texas more than themselves, because it means that Kansas State or Missouri goes to the Fiesta, and no conference can send 3 to the Big Bucks Bowls.

Kansas State vs TCU? Ugh, too much purple.

bond007 11-16-2003 10:27 PM

regardless of who wins Ohio State-Michigan, the Wolverines are a virtual lock for the Rose Bowl. as for the Buckeyes, it's probably Sugar Bowl or bust.

as Michigan fans like to say... you can't spell Citrus Bowl without O-S-U!
