Bitter Rivalrys

Every college teams has a rival or more - some have an opponent that they just flat hate and fans are the same way (whoever is playing Nebraska is my favorite team). Which colleges have the most serious rivalrys? This weekend Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State- these people do not like each other. OU fans don't care for Texas - OU fans hate Nebraska - OU fans look at the Aggies from down (actually up) the road with total and utter contempt. It makes no difference what the record of either team is going into this game it is a totally different season. OSU is no pushover but I've never yet figured out why they can cause the Sooners such difficulty - OU can be 11-0 and OSU 0-11 and it will be a knockdown dragout war before it ends. This year, like last, OU's season pretty well comes down to whatever happens with the Aggies on Saturday. OU played a totally shitty game against Colorado Saturday night and that may have been a very appropriate wakeup call for the Sooners - OSU could be in for a long afternoon if the wakeup call worked - If the Sooners make it past Saturday, then you can all get used to hearing "Boomer Sooner" a bunch of times in the last game of the year.

Go 'Pokes

I know that Texas fans HATE Blow-U and the Farmers down south of us (Texas A&M). We also have Arkansas & Texas Tech on our payback list.

Michigan has OSU, which is considered the greatest rivarly of them all.

They also have MSU and ND as big rivals but seriously Michigan is like the team that everyone in the Big Ten wants to beat. Purdue people have not won at Mich since 1966. The Little Brown Jug with Minnesota.

I personally love Auburn and Alabama as the other great one.

Since I assume you don't just mean football, you have to include Duke-North Carolina (voted greatest all-time basketball rivalry a year ago) and Duke-Maryland (voted greatest present basketball rivalry in same article).

You could go forever about this, because people have different rivals in different sports, plus all the levels of competative sports. Not just nationally; I'm sure everyone here can name either the archrival high school, or a big local rivalry that gets everyone in the area excited..

Of course, Army-Navy is the greatest one ever overall.

Army-Navy by far...their whole season doesn't matter just that one game, make that their only win on the season thats all they care about is beating eachother. I'll always cheer for Army on this one, don't ask me why i just like 'em

UGA/GA Tech -- "Clean, old fashioned hate"

I had the privilege of attending this one last year. So much fun, even though UGA wound up winning like 51-7. Hopefully it will be a more, shall we say, competitive game this year.

Other UGA rivalries: UGA/Florida and UGA/Auburn

I go to Cornell. Our bitter rivalry is Harvard in ice hockey. Definitely the best home game of the year. Enough people in the arena to violate several building codes and the tradition of throwing fish and other marine animals at the Harvard team before the game. Unfortunately, it's really sorta one-sided as Cornell fans hate Harvard and the Harvard "fans" are indifferent.

The Newcastle - Sunderland rivalry has a long and bitter history.
To illustrate I've compiled a collage of some of my recent desktop wallpapers.

Top left: Peter Reid, ex-manager of 'them'. "Peter Reid's got a fuckin monkey's heed"

Bottom left: Mickey Gray, ex-captain of 'them' wearing lipstick.

The worst thing about Sunderland is that they never stay in the premier league for more than one season at a time, thus robbing us of two easy wins every other season.

Go Pokes, hopefully it will be a good game (for OSU). I would like to see us blow OU out of the water but I think it will be a long hard fight.
