Yao = Unstoppable?

He's tearing up the preseason and it looks like Van Gundy is basically forcing Mobley and Francis to dish it into him, and he's finishing it.

Right now, he and Eddie Jones have probably been the most consistent people in the preseason.

Go Yao!

sixate 10-24-2003 08:29 PM

First, preseason means almost nothing.

Yao will never be as good as Shaq or Duncan.
I could think of about 4 more centers in the NBA that I would take over Yao. He's gonna be better than last year, but he's not gonna be an unstopable force.

cactus_bangers 10-24-2003 11:35 PM

agreed. yao is way too inexperienced in the NBA to dominate any time soon.

Yao has better coordination than most big men(Duncan and Shaq excepted) but he needs more meat and seasoning. Don't think he will ever be "dominant" in the Shaq sense of the word.

Kurant 10-25-2003 05:28 AM

Duncan is not dominating. He's just good. He waits for his chances, can shoot the jumper, he's not dominating except in the sense he's so good it makes me puke. He's just, good. =/

Shaw is dominating, dunks, knocking people over, 300+ pounds taking up 1/3rd of the lane, he changes an entire game just with sheer size, that's dominating.

Yao has a chance to be somthing special, if he's not falling backwards while running, or air-balling free throws and hitting his head on the rim. He's without a doubt good, he's just, goofy.

The_Dude 10-25-2003 08:53 AM

i disagree on the consistency of yao.

i've followed him for a bit in the last season and in almost all of the games, francis is the lead scorer with mobely 2nd.

yao has dominated in some games in the offensive side, but he's been pretty solid on the defensive side.

as long as he gets the scorin goin, he'll be awesome.

Nimbletoe 10-25-2003 09:42 AM

He'll be good, but he will definitley be stoppable, especially when he goes up against like, Shaq.

inkriminator 10-25-2003 11:01 AM

Yao can be THE center in the NBA in a year or two. Right now he is top three without a doubt. His shooting, vision, speed [for a big man] coordination intelligence and over-all athleticism give him TREMENDOUS upside.

Halx 10-25-2003 01:59 PM

This makes me think about to Hakeem Olajuwan.. man, that guy could move like nothing else! Yao cannot move anywhere near as quickly as the Dream. I think he'll be fairly good, but I don't think he'll do many spectacular things.

buclao 10-25-2003 06:19 PM

Some of the things Yao does reminds me soooo much of Hakeem's moves. Like faking under the basket, spinning, and finish with a layup. Beautiful, just beautiful

AL9045 10-25-2003 06:23 PM

We'll see. =P.

BigGov 10-25-2003 06:56 PM

Van Gundy is a moron.

Feed the ball to Yao, then have Yao feed it back to whoever cuts inside. He is the best passing center in the league.

Another vote for Yao being more coordinated than Shaq. Shaq is an oaf.

BigGov 10-27-2003 01:32 PM

Shaq isn't an oaf.

My guess is many of you aren't carrying around that much weight, let alone that much height.

Ever wonder why you never see a big guy with the speed or moves of AI? There's a reason.

Agreed

Good but not unstoppable. A few years and he should mature and become a great center, but honestly I don't see him being held in the upper echelon of Centerdom.
