Best MLB Playoffs in years?
 

Ok, I thought it would be tough to beat last year's Angels run, but it turns out that nobody gave a shit, regardless of the incredible outcome. Now, so far, the Arizona/New York world series is definately the best WS in recent memory. Now, the LCS are not even over with and I'm willing to call it all the best in recent history.

We have two teams going against ancient curses. One against their mega-ultra rivals, and the other against a young team that wont fucking give up! Everyone is interested this year.. ratings are up and it's just plain interesting. We've had fights, records being broken, a couple pitcher duels... it's just all coming together.

Yes i would LOVE to see a Cubs/Red Socks WS! I'm not really even a baseball fan and i have been watching these games to see if the "curse" is going to be broken. I just hope the NYY don't get in once again!

Yeah, I have to admit the playoffs have been incredible. Even though I am sick to death of seeing the Yankees post season, and don't care for the Red Sox much, they have been good games. As much as I hate it, it looks like it going to be the Yanks in the Series for the American League. With them up 3 to 2, going back to New York, it will be tough for Boston to take two, but I can still hope for a Boston/ Cubs series, at least for now.

I'm glued to the Cubs game right now... cept for the commercial. I missed the yanks/bosox game.. work. I agree, I've watched more baseball in the last 2 weeks, than all summer. Every game has been great, even the blow outs.

Man top of a great month of baseball with tonight's Marlins vs Cubs game. Incredible how that team just won't give up. To come from so far behind at the break, to now being one game away from another trip to the fall classic. And the Cubs, man they've played with some serious heart. They've been down and out for so many years, and it's all resting on game 7. Amazing stuff.

Then you've got an intense rivalry on the other end. BOS and NYY. Temper's flairing, punches flying, what a great series. Tomorrow's game will be another great matchup, I'm sure of it. No matter who goes to the final set, it's going to be one heck of a world series this year.

I've been a baseball fan since I was in little league. It was nerve racking to see its popularity take a dive in the past decade. I really think last season with the Angels, and now with the Cubbies, it's really bringing the fans back to the park. The way it should be.

Can't wait to see how it all unfolds, although I'm still bitter about my Astros. They had what it took to get to the post season, but took a nose dive the last week of the season.

The players are all interesting, with great storylines:
New York: Every sport needs the bad guy, the evil empire. New York is the team people love to root against. The storylines have been, even for a Yankees hater, very compelling. Karim Garcia is the Yankee coming through with the big hits. David Wells, persona non-grata this spring, has been their rock. Surprises from the cagey villians.

Florida: Picks its manager up from an AARP convention in Florida, and he rejuvinates a very young club. MLB has a chance to showcase young stars lke Cabrera and Willis. A future hall of famer has perhaps his last chance at baseball immortality, and he is having one of the greatest series ever. Everyone loves the ultimate underdog, and sorry Cubs fans, this Marlins team is it.

Chicago/Boston: I'll group these two together, for obvious reasons. Misery sells as a story line. Misery is compelling, and both these franchises have had their fair share. Though Chicago is not an underdog, they are still the lovable losers. And Boston, although self-destructing at times, has shown an amazing closeness between teammates not seen elsewhere. Again, some of the best names in baseball play for these teams - what could be more compelling then men on base for Sosa, Ramirez, Alou or Garciaparra?


The most compelling, sure. There are too many great storylines not to be.

What's compelling is watching Sosa's discipline from the last 5 years completely dissapear this year. 1997-2002 he was very close to a 1 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio, now he's back to the early Sammy, swining at everything, with an almost 3 to 1 ratio.

It's also compelling to watch what some consider to be one of the best contact hitters in baseball, Garciaparra go 2 for 25 in the post-season.

If you like compelling stories and the drama of it all, I guess it's the best. If you like good baseball, go watch the little league kids play at 7 tonight.

(Yes, I'm a Cubs fan also.)

yeah, but it is also great to see sammy stealing bases, hitting singles and scrabbling like the old days when he was a 30-30 guy. he's pumped and trying to get the ball in play, not just get it out of the park.

i'm one of those rare northside and southside fans (a windy city series would both delight and rip me apart). i wish frank thomas had some of sammy's attitude -- maybe the white sox wouldn't have laid down to minnesota.

but yeah, this is one of the best postseasons in a long time, and the tv ratings prove people are watching again. this is our national past time, and i hope mlb can keep the momentum going.

the best story is a cubs/red sox series - it pulls the deepest heart strings of baseball traditionalists. it's a replay of the 1918 series, the last time the bosox won.

no offense to the hard scrabble fighting fish or the pinstriped knickerbockers... but a yanks/fish series just wouldn't have the same magic.

the pants are getting baggy again, guys are showing their stirrups. baseball is best when it ties itself into it's deep tradition and carries it on. i saw enough purple and aqua and expansions in the last series. give me some good old fashioned gold and show me how red that ivy will turn as october wanes on.

Well, I do find myself watching and I haven't been a baseball fan in about 6-7 years... But hey, the marlins are back in it so I have to watch!
