TFP Top 20 - October 13, 2003

With *6* ballots (we're going the wrong way with this):

1. Oklahoma (5) - 119
2. Miami-Florida (1) - 114
3. Virginia Tech - 107
4. Georgia - 103
5. Florida State - 86
6. Southern California - 80
7. Washington State - 78
8. Iowa - 71
9. Ohio State - 66
10. Arkansas - 55
11. LSU - 48
12. Wisconsin - 47
13. Northern Illinois - 42
14t. Purdue - 39
14t. Michigan State - 39
16. Minnesota - 33
17. Michigan - 32
18. Nebraska - 23
19. TCU - 21
20. See Honorable Mention

Honorable Mention: Air Force 8, Miami-Ohio 8, Texas 8, Tennessee 7, Oklahoma State 6, Auburn 4, Texas Tech 2, Oregon State 1, Kansas State 1

None of the 8-point receiving teams (each on two ballots) is really deserving of #20, so there is no #20. Tennessee was on 3 ballots, but had fewer points.

I find it ironic that the same people who were complaining when Michigan and Texas were ranked higher than the teams they had lost to and now Minnesota has been put higher than Michigan. Very nice.

I would have thought Florida State would have fallen, but with only 6 votes, eh...

The_Dude 10-14-2003 07:58 AM

Texas :( God Damn you mack brown.

FSU would have fallen but everyone behind them lost also.

I couldn't vote this week - I was away for a few days.

Some observations:
This is the worst week for the rankings yet. They don't seem to make as much sense. Why is Wisconsin below Ohio State? I know Michigan is a two loss team, but didn't they beat Minnesota?

Nebraska? Really?

Miami of Ohio would be at twenty if I had voted.

Pittsburgh disappeared (rightly) as did Kansas State (practically).

Lots of top-ten losses last week. Certainly FSU got the best of it, being ranked fifth. LSU got the worst of it (probably right also).

Basically anything under 10 ballots is too skewed, so the only reason any of these have made sense is that no one has been deliberately trying to skew the ballot.

I'm going to post the call for votes next week in Playground and Nonsense also, just to see if we can get some more ballots in. These two were selected because they are the least likely to get blindly bounced to Sports, at least from what I've observed.
