Fire Mack Brown?
This has been discussed a lot at the UT boards (www.hornfans.com) and pretty much everyone agrees that mack brown should be fired.
I'm interested in what the outside world thinks of this. - He has gotten raped by OU for the last 4 years (twice for over 50 pts ) - 0 Conf Championships, 0 natl championships with 1 heisman winner, 17 all americans, 5 1st round picks - 2-9 vs top 10 opponents. - always gets a good pool of recruits (he is a good recruiter). - when chris simms was here, poor chris took the blame for not being able to "win the big game". now we realize that it wasnt chris. - the man gets 1.7 million/year + has a contract till 2011 . some stats taken from www.firemackbrown.com

Major Applewhite was the better QB. Not starting Applewhite cost Texas the Big XII Title in 2001 and a shot at being crushed by Miami in the National Championship. Blame for that may not be on Mack Brown but on his boss, the AD.
Brown can't help it if Oklahoma has had a phenomenal run the past 4 years. The beatings by OU may only get worse without Brown's recruiting ability to keep the players in Texas. Mack Brown will have job offers within minutes of being fired. He's too good a coach to not be scooped up almost instantly. |

Adrian peterson, a VERY HIGHLY touted recruit (who was prospected by UT, OU, Miami and others) was at the Red river shootout and watch texas get RAPED by OU. i think it's safe to say that we lose him.
Mack is the kinda guy you would love to have as your father in law, not your headcoach. he's known as nice both on & off the field (and in practice). if you looked at the precision routes and the play design run by OU and compare it to the plays run by texas, u will see the difference in the level of coaching.

Brown is a good recruiter but he has come no where close to getting the best of the Texas players - the best recruiting done in Texas is done by Bob Stoops. If you look at the stats of the OU/Texas game last weekend this will be quite apparent. There are more good Texas football players playing for OU than UT. It is anyone's guess as to why Stoops Inc. has the ability to recruit about whatever he wants out of Texas high schools - perhaps it is the almost guarantee of a prestege bowl game every year and at least being in the hunt for a national championship that entices so many of them to cross the Red River - perhaps it is the difference between the two schools - UT is huge and very impersonal - OU is small, compact and a very friendly place to go to school. The same can be said if you compare the two cities involved - Norman vs Austin - Norman is a really friendly small town while Austin is a major metropolitan area.

Who else are you gonna get? Ron Zook?
Mack Brown's teams fail to rush the football in big games. I suppose if you have the same failure every year, you should be looked at for the job you haven't done. But Mack Brown wasn't playing offensive guard for Texas. I dunno. We got rid of John Cooper for not beating Michigan, though his teams had success, he couldn't win it all. I think people need to understand that there is a certain amount of parity now in college football and noone can just dominate. Mack Brown is a really good football coach. He lost a close one against a good Arkansas team, then went down to a superior Oklahoma team. Wait and see what happens against A&M, etc. before you pass judgement. |

The name Les Miles has been popping up.
the a&m game doesnt matter. aggies are 3-3 and we should celebrate a win over such a team. we do get to play nebraska, texas tech, oklahoma state this year and if we have one more loss, i'd say brown's job is in jeopardy.

Hell no!
Who are we going to laugh at if Mack Brown is fired and Texas almost wins a big game?

R.C. Slocum seems to come to mind in this discussion, anyone remember him, the guy who got fired because he had no talent playing for him? Boy was that dumb. I have great respect for Slocum, and I think he'd be able to instill some discipline into the Texas system. I agree with The_Dude, Mack Brown is not the right guy for a HEAD coaching job. He just doesn't have that sort of personality. Coaches need, NEED to be feared. When you make a dumb play you need to EXPECT to get your ass so chewed out that you ain't gonna have an ass no more! Mack Brown, cannot, repeat, CANNOT do that, it's just not in his personality type. His is more, oh, ok, we'll try better next time, it's allright, here, let me get you a Gatorade. Keep Mack as a recruiter, and get someone else to be head coach. Losing a rivalry game four years in a row, while scoring more than twenty points only once is inexcusable, it's pathetic.

Most likely yer gonna see the O and D cordinators get the boot, ala nebraska last year. typical save my ass move of most head coaches, as it buys them 2 -3 more years. IF u can get les miles outta OSU, you'd be doing good, but since he has been doing good things there, it would take alot.
The only way Mack should be the head coach is if he has 2 cordinators who are yer "bad cop" type of coaches, that allow brown's personality to be a positive to his team. possible people mentionted around the dallas area have been: Les Miles- In conference coach, would take alot to get him. good option. Frank Beamer- Has done a hell of a job at VT, and joining a more football centered confrence like the big 12 vs the new ACC might be apealling to him. But on the other side of the coin, having been part of the formation of the new acc, he can right his own ticket AT VT for years to come. Dirk Koetter ASU. - one of the better young coaches in the country, but has yet to win anything of note. Mike Bellotti Oregon- Damn good coach, but i seriously doubt he'll leave the west coast. Was offered the USC job, but turned it down. Urban Meyer Utah - Good coach, but again, what has he won? As an OU fan, i personally hope that Brown serves out his contract, and gets a nice fat extension. |

lol, it'd be one hell of a buyout if we fire him (same thing happened with markovic, wtf is our AD thinking?)
the anti-brown sentiment is spreading fast, as our campus newspaper is now publishing letters from alum & students who wants brown fired. check out espn's bottom 10 (no, texas is not on the list, but check this out) Quote:
back when mack was 1-0 against stoops.

How about just a coach in Texas, period. Not the University, but the State. Football=Religion. Back home, HS football is like college for most states, college is like pro, and pro, is everything. Being a football coach in Texas is probably damn near the closest thing to being canonized, and you have a lot to live up to, and you are expected to win the big games, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
