Olympic Wanabe's
What are some sports you folks think should be inthe Olympics and what ones whould be taken out?
Personally I think Ping Pong should get out and Paintball should be in. |
haha... i´d love to see Iraq´s national Paintball squad coming out and winning gold over the US... i reckon that would possibly cause WW3... j/k.
i personally don´t find anything interesting about such sports as Handball or Wrestling... but i guess they´ve got tradition on their side. i´d like to see Cricket back in there (only because that would be an easy gold for Australia). i´d also like to see Netball included. (for the same reason as above - although it wouldn´t be as easy against the Kiwis). |
I'd like to see BMX halfpipe in the olympics. It requires at least as much skill as gymnastics and much bigger balls.

Ill give you the bmx one, but its still too much of an "underground" sport...
maybe sometime theyll figure it out |
Paintball would be nice. I'd love to see that, oh, and trust me, the United States would more than likely dominate that arena, Euro teams would be a challenge tho. Yet, the best players are in the U.S.

I think us Canadaian would compete well in the paintball arena.

None. Everything's pretty pointless now, and adding one or two sports isn't going to really change it.
The only "real" sport that is in the Olympics that is interesting is hockey. Basketball is a NBA talent show as long as the top stars participate. Other than that there's basically nothing interesting. |
i´m not sure about merging X-Games sports such as BMX and other half pipe stuff with the traditional Olympics.
i think the X-Games is far better off keeping separate. as for the only ´real sport´ being Hockey, Jimmy... do you mean Ice Hockey in the Winter Olympics? or do you mean Field Hockey in the Summer Olympics? if you mean Ice Hockey, then do mean to say that its the only ´real´ sport since its a major sport? |
Ice Hockey of course.
Everything else either has a much better alternative (Soccer and the World Cup), or is just pure garbage (pretty much everything else). |
yep, well i see your point.
a lot of the other team sports (and others like Tennis et al) have better alternatives. but i do like my swimming. and the pinnacle for that is the olympics. |
Skiing, all disciplines, gymnastics, all dicsiplines, track and field, all disciplines, swimming, all disciplines are contested at the highest levels in the olympics.
There are others, to be sure, but certainly we can agree that the pinnacle of these endevours is the Olympics. I love the Olympics. I hate the fact that pro's are now allowed to compete, but c'est la vie. Since those behind the iron curtain kept their athletes amatuer exclusively by maintaining them by the state, it had to happen. I am getting excited, in fact, for Athens, 2004. Already adjusting my internal clock so I can be on Greece time for those two weeks :) As far as adding or subtracting sports...I would really like to see Lacrosse and Rugby returned to the games, and all 'judged' sports elimated. Figure skating, half pipe, syncronized swimming, diving (although diving is awesome)...and even that portion of a sport which is judged as well as scored. Like the nordic ski jump. Swifter, higher, stronger. Not who's countries judges you can barter with, or pay off the easiest. If not eliminated, they should at least be contested objectively. And the french should be banned for at least one cycle of games. Disgusting. Can't compete anymore on the international stage as they have become a third world country. They therefore resort to cheating. Pathetic. Citius, Altius, Fortius, -bear |
Well, I would concede that Lacrosse be admitted as an Olympic Sport. But Rugby? No, the World Cup happens once every four years which incidentally happens to be on the odd years, hence the World Cup being in just a few weeks. Now, the Olympics will be played about 8 months later. No way would the IRB allow that to happen, it would detract from the game, you'd basically see the same series twice (not that I wouldn't love that) but it's unrealistic.
