MAC has its day
The Mid American Conference and Marshall had a victory today against the Kansas State Wildcats. That makes three victories over ranked opponents for the MAC so far this year.
Add to that stat nice victories outside the Top-25 like the thrashing Miami OH handed to Colorado St. today, and Bowling Green lost by only seven to Ohio State. As of this post, Toledo was down to #11 Pittsburgh by only three, 17-14. And Northern Illinois was at half with Alabama, down only 9-5. So, the conference may get some more nice wins tonite. Anyway, the purpose of this is thread isn't to proclaim the conference as deserving as the big boys. Or to even say that the conference can compete with the big boys. That would be silly. But who is the best mid-major football conference? (Non-BCS) I think the MAC can make a heck of an arguement. EDIT: Northern Illinois beats Alabama at Tuscaloosa. That gives them two wins over top-25 teams this year, and raises the MAC total to four victories over ranked opponents this year. EDIT2: Toledo just beat Pittsburgh. That makes five wins for the MAC over the top-25 this year, the third today, and two in the top-10 today. WOW! |
Lose Pitt, gogo.

Despite Colorado State losing today I still think the Mountain West Conference is one of the best non BCS conferences
|
T O L E D O Toledo!! Go Rockets! They should be undefeated, but a stupid loss to UNLV. We beat Pitt though!!

The MAC is a great conference, and if they don't end up in the next BCS I believe that college football as we know it will collapse.

Just a few short years ago, everyone thought it was a joke when the whole damn conference jumped from I-AA to I-A. Even last year, some of the schools had to fight to get attendence up to within the requirements to stay in I-A.
This year the MAC has thrown it in the face of the BCS conferences; that they will not go quietly back to I-AA. No MAC team was favored to win in any of the game against BCS opponents. If the MAC team didn't win outright, they almost always covered the spread. After what they've shown me this season, I now believe that the MAC more deserves to be in the BCS than a "Big" East without Miami and Virginia Tech. |
yeah, MAC has impressed me today.
hopefully, this is the end of their wins against big 12 teams. |
NIU.
note my post from another thread..."How about Northern Illinois keeps rolling and beats Bama !" |
Let's just hope Northern Illinois can win out and show the BCS to be a failed system. They host Iowa St. next week and with a win they will have beaten quality teams in the ACC, SEC, and Big 12!! Not many teams can say that. They don't have to play Marshall this year (unless it's in the MAC championship), but they do have to go to Bowling Green and Toledo. I'm pulling for 'em!!

The MAC did not just jump up from D-1AA to D1. They have been around for quite a while...they just have been adding a lot of schools like Marshall and Northern Illinois in the recent years.

And yet, my Buffalo Bulls are the only team in the MAC without a win so far, at 0-4. Fuck.

The polls certainly weren't nice to the MAC though. NIU is the only "ranked" team at 20, depending on the poll. Toledo, which beat Pitt ranked no. 11 last week, who also beat Marshall, who beat KSU who was ranked 6, is not in the top 25. The polls still, and always show no love to the MAC.

Great for NIU !!! ... but Toledo should be in also...
