Matt Morris' Comments on the Cubs & The Playoffs
The war between the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals continues to heat up off the field.
Cardinals pitcher Matt Morris, who ducked away from several Kerry Wood pitches during their Sept. 2 matchup at Wrigley Field, has fired the latest shots. Morris was quoted as saying he respects Houston's players more than the Cubs' and hoped the Astros win the National League Central if the Cardinals don't. He said it would be ''sad'' if the Cardinals and Astros knock each other from contention in their remaining head-to-head games ''while the Cubs could sneak in there unscathed. That wouldn't be fun. We've been battling way too long to expend our energy and then have [the Cubs] win.'' As a Cardinal fan I'm not sure what to think. I kind of feel the same way, but then again, I'm not in a position to where I can effect the outcome of things. What do you think? I think it's something an NFL player would say. I think he should just be quiet and keep those kinds of thoughts to himself. It sounds rather immature and childish.

Morris RESPECTS the Astros more.
Looka t the way the Cubs handled the series, Alou and Alfonseca acting that way toward the umpire (albeit somewhat deserved). The Cubs/Cards rivalry is great, this just makes it better. Keep the rivalry alive. |
