Well by GAWD we need a CUBS thread!
C'mon all you closet Cubs fans, it's safe to come out now. It's SEPTEMBER and the Cubs are still in it! Temperature in hell: 700 degrees and dropping, baby!
But seriously, in order for our beloved Cubbies to have a chance in this thing a couple things have to happen, imo: 1. Destroy and scatter the ashes of Antonio Alfonseca. The man is a bane to the existance of the Cubs. He is beyond bad. He is so deadly he should be wearing our opponents jersey when he comes out of the bullpen. 2. Kerry Wood needs to step it up! Yeah he's good, no doubt about it, but he needs to take it to the next level. This is his 5th season, he really needs to take charge and show the guys what endurance and dedication is about. Going 6 innings like he did against the Reds today was, in my opinion, subpar for him. Where's the Wood of last season? 3. We need to trade one of the following: Eric Karros, Hee Seop Choi or Randall Simon. 3 1st basemen ain't good for 1 team and we could get some good relief pitching to replace the aforementioned banished and never-spoken-of-again Alfonseca. What do y'all think? evilmatt. |

I'm not a Cubs fan but I would like to see them win the division.
I agree that Alfonseca is crap. Maybe his problem is that sixth finger on each hand and sixth toe on each foot. I bet if they get cut off, he will be awesome. About Wood, you have to remember that he has thrown a lot of innings this year. Dusty constantly allows him to throw over 120 pitches which will wear a startling pitcher down. He and Prior need strong finishes down the stretch to keep them in contention. |

Go Cubbies!
Agree about ol' 6 fingers. He's got to go. He hasn't done anything this year but blow some very critical games. Wood should have a few more wins had the offense produced for him. I'm afraid Karros is the odd man out. Choi is the future and Simon is a keeper. He has really produced since the Cubs acquired him. I like Karros alot, he hasn't played badly at all. Suspect we'll see some off-season dealing by Hendry to strengthen the bull pen using a 1st baseman. Now if they can only beat the Reds today. |
