Tampa Bay All The Way! What's your theory?

It's looking like Tampa is going to repeat. How good can it get beating Philly in the last game they would play in their old home, Veterans Stadium (awww) for the NFC Championship and then coming back for the first regular season game the following year in their new home the Lincoln Financial Center and shutting them out. (awww²) Their defense isn't rated No.1 for no reason. I have a hard time predicting anything other than Tampa getting ring #2 this year.

Jurevicious' 2 TD receptions were incredible, and to add insult to injury, Sapp's 14 yard catch must have pissed off everyone in Philly that much more. What a feeling it must have been to walk up into the Eagles home and make the crowd BOO the home team. I had a smile from ear to ear last night.

So who do you think can actually compete with TB this year, and possibly take away their World Champion status?

The_Dude 09-09-2003 07:19 AM

that was an asswhopping that tb gave philly last night.

they looked very impressive on defense and jurivicious' catches were just amazing. that guy knows wtf is going on and wtf to do.

as for superbowl win, i dont think so. i dont see any challengers yet, but i'm sure that some will rise.

monkeydriven 09-09-2003 08:22 AM

Bigger question is, "Will anyone score on them at all this year."

bish 09-09-2003 09:39 AM

They're games are probably the ugliest to watch, but they are good. It just goes to show that Gruden is 10 times the coach Dungy is.

WTF are you talking about? If anything they are one of the best to watch. Defense wins games and to watch the Bucs stomp a team to the ground and hold them scoreless is beautiful. I do agree though, Gruden is the man and Dungy is a POS.

Glory's Sun 09-09-2003 07:38 PM

the bucs are still the team to beat for sure

BigGov 09-09-2003 08:45 PM

Good? Yes, but all the way? The Bills are starting to look impressive after they picked up a few pro bowlers on defense. On top of an offense with a set of all-stars in Bledsoe, Moulds, and Henry I would rank them ahead of the Bucs.

The Dolphins also have the players, but their coaching will probably screw them over.

Overall, the Bucs look guarenteed to reach the Super Bowl this year, but that doesn't mean their offense is good. Jurevicious had about 30 yards receiving, they have the worst set of running backs in the NFL (how many ex-Cardinals now? 3? That says it all), they don't have a tight end, their WR's are decent, and their QB's are far below average.

Spartak 09-10-2003 01:12 AM

Didn't Brad Johnson have one of the highest QB ratings last year ?

Anyway, their main weakness is offence, but if they clinch their division (which they should) they will be hard to beat come playoffs, but it can be done if the other team's offence plays smart.

The Saints did it twice last year.

Tampa has Johnson who might I add was the top rated QB in the NFC last year. With the WRs TB has, the QB only needs to be up to par at best which Johnson is, even on his worst days. As for the comment that any oposing offense needs to play smart when up against TBs defense, look at Oakland in the Super Bowl XXXVII. The No. 1 Offense that season was pretty much useless against the No. 1 defense. DEFENSE wins games, not offense.

Peace Out.

grayman 09-10-2003 06:10 AM

If a team can run the ball consistently, they will have a chance against Tampa. I think that the Bucs should be pretty happy that the Dolpins lost, making it just a little harder to push for the playoffs, because I think they could kill the Bucs. Jason Taylor would wreak havoc on Brad Johnson and the Bucs have no running game. The important thing to remember is that it is only week 1, and many things will change. The Bucs are in the Eagles heads so that game isn't an accurate depiction of either team's abilities. The Bucs better hope that Brad Johnson doesn't get hurt. Remember what happened last year.

crewsor 09-10-2003 03:46 PM

Its tough to repeat. They are a good team but everyone gets fired up for the champs making every game tough. I don't think they have everyone outclassed enough to predict a Superbowl victory just yet. We'll see.

gonadman 09-10-2003 08:40 PM

Regular season records are just for getting into the playoffs. It comes down to who is playing the best down the stretch with the fewest injuries.

The greatest team is just one fracture away from elimination(see NFC championship, 2002)

wwcd101 09-11-2003 08:44 AM

I'll agree.

It'll probably be boring, but the D is awesome.

Thanks for listening.

Uh Oh. Looks like the Panthers found a chink in the armor.

Begora21 09-14-2003 06:33 PM

I think today proved that they did nothing to improve an already fairly lame offense. Juervicious looked bad, possibly out for the year. They'll be hurting. The D is great, but they'll have a hard time repeating ....

blkdmnd 09-14-2003 07:10 PM

Well damn. I just want to gloat (being a huge Panther fan and all), but, the fact is, we didn't really play all that well. Sure, we beat the world champions.

Sure, Warren Sapp got busted in more ways than one for running his mouth (a 15 yarder for unsportmanlike conduct, no sacks).

Sure we blocked 2 field goals and the game winning extra point. (OK maybe a little gloating).

In reality we only had 97 yards in the air. We were in the red zone 3 times and came away only with field goals. Davis had 140+ yards but over 50 of those came in the first drive of the day.

Tampa has a great team. Good enough to go back to the Super Bowl? Prolly not. At least not as the NFC South division winner.

archer2371 09-15-2003 02:46 AM

Any given Sunday man, any given Sunday...... or Saturday if ur a CFB fan.

perripken 09-15-2003 05:25 AM

This thread reminds me why as a Bills fan, I will keep my mouth shut!

lions20 09-15-2003 05:51 AM

Not after they sucked it up in Carolina.

lions20 09-15-2003 05:52 AM

Sorry against Carolina.

Dragon_Imp 09-15-2003 07:53 AM

Bucs will repeat but i cant believe they lost to carolina omg they should have made that last fieldgoal so they didnt have to go in OT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

weasel2112 09-15-2003 07:57 AM

Bucs will not repeat. Tampa will choke just like Miami always does.

djtestudo 09-15-2003 08:06 AM

...and like they did the past few years beofre last year...

AL9045 09-15-2003 11:29 AM

Carolina does not suck you people who act like losing to Carolina is like losing to the Bengals.

Carolina has one of the most dangerous defenses, and on like ESPN Radio all the analysts had them winning the division or getting in via wild card.

djtestudo 09-15-2003 12:19 PM

The problem with the Panthers is that their offense could go either way. If Delhomme manages to play the season at a minimum of a Dilfer-like level, they'll be a playoff team from their D. If Delhomme starts to suck, and Peete or (please GOD NO) Chris Weinke can't take over at a well enough level, they'll be as screwed as screwed can be.

AL9045 09-15-2003 01:55 PM

Yeah, but the Panthers look like they'll be a formidable team this year, even if they get mediocre play from their QBs they'll be dangerous. Adding Davis at RB should open up some passing opportunities sooner or later.

Dragon_Imp 09-16-2003 06:34 AM

I know what yall are saying carolina is not a bad football team but still dont u think that Tampa should have won that game and why dont you think they will repeat i mean look at last year there first game they lost because of the special teams and again this year the second game of the season the special teams couldnt make 1 fieldgoal to win the game and still they won last year so dont u think it could just be the same thing that happened last year i think the defense will carry them again to repeat with the help of Brad Johnson.......

LUVTAPPER007 09-16-2003 08:03 AM

Amen, Dragon. Teams lose games and it just so happens to be Tampa that lost one they should have had in the bag. Carolina made a desperation attemp to block the PAT and they did. Tampa's mistake was thinking of the PAT as a gimme, and thinking the game was won in the nick-of-time. That turned out to bite them in the ass. They'll get over it and whoop ass in the Georgia Dome this Sunday. Tampa just needs to keep the penalties under 100 yeards at the most. 170 yards or what ever they had is just rediculous. Sapp does need to keep his mouth shut sometimes (but that's why I love him.) and play ball. We'll see what they can do againt Atlanta this weekend.

Begora21 10-07-2003 12:17 PM

I can't stand TB ... I live here in Tampa and was trying to watch that amazing A's - Sox game last night ona tiny TV in a sports bar while a bunch of loud obnoxious Buc fans cheered every 1 yard gain on many large screens ... this place sucks

Kurant 10-07-2003 01:04 PM

Impression?

They are way overrated, and I hope warren sapp gets hit by a car.

Fuck that, the whole team gets hit by a semi.

But, being a Vikings fan, I'm biased. =)

Turns out you may have been a tad premature. Things aren't looking too good at the moment.

wrongfullyaccuzd 11-18-2003 11:01 PM

haha let's stop raggin on this poor guy for making this prediction in april...with the most recent nfl game at that point being the bucs' whupping of oakland in the super bowl, i was saying the same thing.

crewsor 11-19-2003 05:53 AM

His registration date was April. His prediction was September. I know, thats still early but that was my point. Things can look entirely different week to week in the NFL.
Two weeks ago I thought the Ravens would run away with their division. Now they are tied with Cincy... Did I just say that?
Oh man, that sux.
