TFP College Top 20 - September 8, 2003
.With a whopping 5 ballots cast, here are the results:
1. Oklahoma (2) - 96 2. Miami-FL (1) - 90 3. Southern California - 87 4. Ohio State (1) - 85 5. Texas (1) - 77 6. Kansas State - 72 7. Michigan - 71 8. Florida State - 66 9. Virginia Tech - 61 10. Georgia - 60 11. Louisiana State - 44 12. Tennessee - 42 13. Pittsburgh - 39 14. Colorado - 29 15. Iowa - 25 16. Florida - 23 17. Norte Dame - 21 18. Wisconsin - 18 19. Wake Forest - 17 20. Alabama - 8 Honorable Mention: Nebraska 6, TCU 2, Minnesota 2, Arizona State 2, Texas Tech 2, Arkansas 1, North Carolina State 1, Northern Illinois 1, Bowling Green 1 We seem to have a clue as to what's going on in college football, especially as compared to computer polls and "professional" polls. Comparing out results with those on http://www.mratings.com/cf/compare.htm and we would have a .952 correlation and would have the 10th "best fit". The only BCS computer poll ahead of us is Massey's (.974), and we spanked the ESPN/USA Today (.929) and AP (.896) polls. Maybe we'll get more next week. |

Thanks for doing this. The results are very interesting.
It seems that all five voters agreed that the top nineteen teams belong in the top twenty, although their rankings were certainly different, it looks like from Wisconsin on up, everyone agreed that these teams should be ranked. I've always thought that the polls take two weeks to adjust themselves - voters unfortunately don't react right away to the Saturday late games. It will be interesting to see the evolution of the TFP college rankings - to compare from one week to the next. Thanks again, and I wonder if we can guess who voted Texas number one? |

The oddest part: Four ballots had LSU at #12, one at #13. You don't get much better agreement than that, except at the very top or the very bottom.
There's also a small but significant gap between #10 Georgia and #11 LSU. General agreement on who belongs in the top 10 as well, just differences in placement. |

Going over it in detail.
I am very happy colorado got up as high as they did and the same with wake forest. I am a little suprised Alabama ended up there in place of Nebraska and a couple of other teams on honorable mention list. Also a suggestion that if a team is placed higher than all the other ballots you either throw out the whole ballot or only the team that the person voted for so. Thanks Art |
