it was a great game.
im not a fan of either and i have a player from each team starting on my fantasy squad (coles & martin). i just wished the jets couldve been more productive on 3rd downs and the jetskins wouldve thrown more to coles in the 2nd half... it wouldve made the game a whole lot interesting.

Man, I can't believe the Jets ever let Coles go. What the hell were they thinking?
The offense looked like crap today, without Coles and Pennington I think they're screwed. Man, someone in the Jets' front office should get their ass handed to them because of their offseason screwups. They were well on their way to contention and now they're headed back to the cellar. |

Am I the only one who was not impressed with either team?
I may easily be wrong, but neither quarterback looked to be leading playoff caliber offenses. The Jets couldn't stop the run. The Redskins could have made a quilt out of the yellow hankeys they collected. It was nice that the kickoff game was close. I just didn't think it was very good football. I predict that neither team wins nine games. |

Limiting mistakes - when your nosetackle and receivers are jumping offsides, and your corners don't bother to look for the ball, this is bad football. Solid performance by 'skill' players. Off/Def linemen doing the things that make teams sucessful - getting downfield to block, playing until the whistle blows. Mike linebackers and quarterbacks making correct reads and adjustments. I saw too many mistakes to be overly impressed Thursday nite. You disagree? |

And you miss a tackle, so what? The person you were trying to tackle could've broke free. It's not like a bad player misses a tackle on a bad player. Penalties, it's the first game. I saw some pretty solid performances on Thursday. I mean it wasn't like the greatest game in the world, but it was a good game to watch. |

i'd have to agree with gov135. missed tackles are huge! if you wrap a guy up properly, he shouldn't be able to break loose. sure, it's bound to happen that you just couldn't get the guy, but i think gov135 is talkin about the obvious ones, which i see all the time. get's f'n annoying when you're watching your team play, and they keep missing tackles that should be easy as pie.
as for penalties? come on now. just because it's only the first game of the season, doesn't mean they should be givin' a break on how many penalties they commit. they've had 4 preseason games to get ready for this, and they go over that kinda shit in practice all the time. granted though, i'm sure as the season goes on, penalties should become less. unless you're the raiders. those guys have led the league in penalties quite a bit in the last 3 or 4 seasons. i can't remember how many times i've seen teams give away a game because of a penalty. but i'll agree with AL9045, it was still a decent game to watch. cool seeing hall kick that game winner. especially when i picked washington in my pool, woot! |

oh, i'm not saying the preseason matters at all. and i know they don't play the whole game. but still, if you think about it, through summer camp, preseason games and regular practice, they should be gettin that stuff down. hell, a lot of the times, the players know they're committing a penalty, they're just trying to get away with it and hope the ref doesn't see anything.

Missed tackles are obvious throughout the NFL now-a-days.
There are very few players that know how to tackle now-a-days. 25% at best. Think about how many times you see a massive hit on Sportscenter. If you watch an actual game, you'll see at least 10 times where some moron misses a tackle because he was going for the big hit. Not to mention, the Redskins RB's and Curtis Martin aren't Barry Sanders or Jerome Bettis nor will they be mistaken for either of them any time soon.

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |
